Analysing the profile of Down To The Kid, it wasn't a huge surprise to see the seven-year-old finding the closing stages of the mile handicap he contested a week before Christmas just beyond him.
The lack of a recent run seemed to tell on the selection who hit the front looking as though he was going to win with authority, only to fade late on and find fellow track regular Hale End too strong in the last 50 yards.
That performance represented the best effort Down To The Kid has achieved following a lengthy absence and it is interesting that connections drop the strong traveller back to seven furlongs as that's a trip he's rarely tried in a lengthy career.
His run style suggests it is worth another try however and Michael Herrington's son of Pride Of Dubai can go one better here.
