It is Classic weekend in Ireland with the Curragh staging the Tattersalls 2,000 Guineas (15:40) on Saturday and the fillies' version on Sunday.

As you would expect, Aidan O'Brien has a firm grasp on both races and it is hard to see a bet in either, although I would expect Precise to make a sizeable leap forward from her comeback run in the English Guineas at Newmarket.

Her preparation had been rushed and she was arguably drawn on the wrong side of the track that day while it was also noticeable that she was there with a chance going into the Dip but a matter of moments later she took a huge blow and her race was over.

Her fitness should be much more on point now and the cut in the ground at the Curragh should suit as she strives to add her name at the 11th hour to contenders for the Oaks at Epsom next month.

Unfortunately, there isn't a great deal of juice in the price, so I'll concentrate on the three below instead and simply enjoy a great weekend's action across the Irish Sea.

Goodwood, 13.25 - Back Pathein each-way @ 14/115.00

Pathein has been quite highly tried in a three-race career and could find this handicap, even with 17 rivals, a little easier than the assignments he has been set to date.

The son of St Mark's Basilica won his Doncaster maiden at a big price last September prior to being plunged into Group company at Newmarket in the Autumn Stakes where he moved to the front at the furlong marker before fading.

It was a similar story on Pathein's comeback at today's venue three weeks ago where he looked to blow up on his reappearance behind a St James's Place Stakes entry in Protection Act who could well have booked his Royal Ascot ticket with his victory over a mile.

Connections have bypassed a tilt at the Silver Bowl at Haydock in preference for this handicap where a drop back to seven furlongs may see Ed Dunlop's colt in a better light and, at odds of 20/121.00, he looks worth chancing with his stable in great form and his effectiveness at the track already assured.

Haydock, 14.58 - Back Division @ 3/14.00

Considering Division did just about everything wrong at Ascot last time, it was a wonder he managed to finish within half-a-length of Coppull in the Group 3 Commonwealth Cup Trial.

Not only did the selection rear at the start, but he was then keen and over-raced in the hands of James Doyle who was at pains to try and get his mount to drop his head and conserve energy.

It was to Division's credit that he managed to claim a podium finish given Coppull was altogether more professional and duly made a winning comeback on his first start since the Temple Park Stakes.

Ascot is a track that lends itself to recovering from a sluggish start whereas Haydock can be more speed favouring so Division cannot afford that trait to seep into his game, but if he jumps on terms in this Group 2 event then he could take some beating, especially as he has experience of the track from a victory at the north west venue as a juvenile and has proven he handles cut in the ground.

Haydock, 15.30 - Back Jm Jungle each-way @ 9/110.00

Jm Jungle has five lengths to make up on Night Raider from their running in the Palace House Stakes at Newmarket, but a switch of venue on easier ground could see the former close the gap at a double figure price.

John & Sean Quinn have proved time and again that they are brilliant at improving horses like the selection who progress from handicap company into pattern races and continue to hold their own and in the son of Bungle Inthejungle, they again have a live contender for the major sprints below Grade 1 level this summer.

Today's marquee event has surely been targeted by the Yorkshire operation as a possible win and, given he was easy to back at Newmarket on his comeback, there should be a fair bit of improvement to come for that seasonal reappearance.

I like Jm Jungle's draw too as he is in close proximity to pacesetters Jakajaro and Frost At Dawn so should get a good tow into the race and he has a number of hold up horses to his right so if the stands' rail is a huge advantage, then the excellent Jason Hart could navigate that path.
