Horse Racing Tips: Katie Midwinter's best bets on Tuesday including 50/1 Goodwood Festival fancy

Goodwood, 13:50 - Back Tony Montana E/W @ 16/117.00

In the opening race of the 2026 Glorious Goodwood Festival, a competitive 18-runner handicap for the Chesterfield Cup, current favourite Noble Horizon is an interesting contender for Oli Rix and could be ahead of his mark on a rating of 94. He could be tough to beat with a favourable run, but at a bigger price, Tony Montana is one to note in the hands of 7lb claiming Toby Moore from a mark of 94.

The six-year-old gelding couldn't pose a serious threat in the race twelve months ago but had previously been narrowly denied at York from a 2lb higher rating than his current mark. He's 4lb lower than in this race last year and put in a creditable effort at Newbury on his return to action when sixth of 24 runners at odds of 16/117.00 in his penultimate start.

Although he wasn't able to justify market support and a starting price of 100/304.30 on the Knavesmire when last seen, in a 15-runner handicap won by Warrant Holder, he could be worth keeping onside from a workable mark with plenty of valuable experience in similar races in his favour.

Whilst the son of Kingman is more exposed than many, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him make the frame and he's well treated at the weights if able to enjoy a favourable trip for Kevin Philippart De Foy.

Bet of the day: Goodwood, 14:25 - Back Haffner @ 2/13.00

In the Group Two Vintage Stakes, Aidan O'Brien-trained Haffner could land a first Stakes success following an impressive maiden victory at the July Festival when last seen. He made a significant impression that day to prevail by a length-and-a-half over €900,000 purchase Al Wathba, with subsequent winner Velociraptor in third, in a race previously won by a number of classy types including Field Of Gold.

The imposing Justify colt, who was bought for $375,000 as a yearling, is out of Earth Strike, a half-sister to a number of black-type achievers including multiple Group One-winning Order Of St George. He's an exciting prospect for Ballydoyle and should be capable of making his presence felt in Group company under Ryan Moore.

Goodwood Cup, 15:35 - Back French Master E/W @ 33/134.00

Despite being only able to manage fifth in last year's renewal, French Master didn't get the best of runs on that occasion and could fare better this time around at a big price. He finished a neck second to Illinois, a top class performer on a going day, in the Queen Alexandra Stakes at Royal Ascot last month, putting in a good effort over an extended 2m5f on that occasion.

This trip in these conditions should suit the five-year-old gelding, and, although he has plenty to find on ratings with the two main protagonists, Scandinavia and Trawlerman, he's capable of showing progression beyond his current mark in only his 12th career start.

Whilst he may just fall shy of the top level, he has shown to possess plenty of ability in the past, beating a number of noteworthy rivals previously, and he's still largely unexposed in a race of this nature.

The gelded son of Frankel could outrun his odds in the hands of James Doyle to make the frame for the in-form Clarehaven Stables that were represented to multiple victories in this race by the brilliant Stradivarius.

Goodwood, 16:10 - Back Seven Questions E/W @ 10/111.00

Course-and-distance winner Seven Questions is only 1lb higher than his last winning mark when successful here in May, and, although he hasn't been able to threaten for the major honours in two runs since, he's capable of putting in a bold bid with a favourable trip from a workable rating.

The Robert Cowell-trained contender has plenty of experience in big field handicaps and is currently 12lb lower than when lining up in the Stewards' Cup twelve months ago here. This term, the five-year-old gelding has shown he still possesses ability and could be good enough to make his presence felt under Jamie Spencer.

Goodwood, 16:10 - Back Jasour E/W @ 14/115.00

Top weight Jasour makes his handicap debut in this competitive handicap, bidding to return to form having failed to win since his Group Three success in the Commonwealth Cup Trial back in 2024. He finished third to Inisherin in the Commonwealth Cup subsequently, and has put in creditable efforts in the July Cup twice as well as in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes since. 

Proven over the distance, he has been seen mostly over 6f over the course of his career to date but can be effective over the minimum distance and could give a good account of himself at a lower level despite being in a tough, big-field handicap. He's a classy performer on his day and placed at Listed level earlier this term. 

Excuses can be made for some of his defeats, particularly at Royal Ascot this year when he raced much too keenly from the outset, and this new challenge could well suit.

Galway, 17:45 - Back Stoneyford Lady E/W @ 16/117.00

From a mark of 100, Henry de Bromhead-trained Stoneyford Lady is only 3lb higher than her previous success, her sole win to date in a Thurles handicap last autumn. She's a half-sister to Champion Chase winner Captain Guinness and is still unexposed over the larger obstacles, making only her seventh start over fences.

Whilst she'll need to show improvement on her form so far this year, her latest effort was a promising step forward when third to Ballybrittas at Wexford, and she could build on the outing here by putting in a competitive performance under Darragh O'Keeffe.

Goodwood, 17:55 - Back Stormy Impact E/W @ 18/119.00

Four-year-old filly Stormy Impact has put in two creditable efforts in her latest runs, especially when a good fourth in the Dash at Epsom to Arklow Lad. She's rated 1lb lower here with Warren Fentiman claiming 3lb in the saddle once again, and, with a repeat performance, should be good enough to make her presence felt in this field.

Currently 2lb lower than her last winning mark, the likeable Richard and Peter Fahey-trained contender has shown enough ability to suggest she can strike in a race of this nature. It's a competitive contest but she makes each-way appeal at the prices and could put in a bold bid.

Goodwood, 17:55 - Back Angel Shared E/W @ 50/151.00

Steph Hollinshead is represented by Angel Shared in the finale, a five-year-old mare who is currently 2lb below her last winning mark and could be capable of outrunning her odds.

She finished a two-length fifth to Azure Angel in a 14-runner Listed race at Bath earlier this season, putting in a brilliant performance at odds of 40/141.00 that day, before being narrowly denied at the same venue by Regal Envoy in her subsequent start back in a handicap.

Far from disgraced in her latest couple of runs, she needs to find improvement but could put in a respectable effort under Clifford Lee and shouldn't be discounted despite being the outsider of the field.

Galway, 19:15 - Back Shoot To Kill E/W @ 8/19.00

Likeable gelding Shoot To Kill was only narrowly denied at Fairyhouse when last seen, improving on a disappointing effort at Leopardstown, having previously returned to form with placed efforts at Roscommon and Down Royal respectively in May, proving he still retains plenty of ability.

The nine-year-old gelding is currently 6lb lower than his last winning handicap mark and can give a good account of himself if getting into a favourable position from a wide draw. He's effective over this trip and has cheekpieces on once again, which should allow him to put in a promising performance.

Galway, 19:15 - Back Go Athletico E/W @ 22/123.00

Go Athletico is another contender to consider in this competitive 7f handicap. He's currently 9lb lower than his last win, when winning a valuable 16-runner handicap at odds of 20/121.00 at the Curragh, and should enjoy the ease in conditions, too.

A classy performer on his day who has proven himself from a much higher mark in deep waters previously, the experienced eight-year-old is well-handicapped should he be at his best. He makes appeal at the weights under Ronan Whelan, and is another who could outrun his odds at the Galway Festival.

Galway, 20:15 - Back Loingseoir E/W @ 12/113.00

Experienced veteran Loingseoir has been running well in defeat often so far this season and is now only 2lb higher than his last winning mark under 5lb claiming Jack Cleary. He doesn't have the best of form figures at this track, but did finish third in a 16-runner handicap here in 2022 when rated 10lb higher.

The 10-year-old is making his 79th career start in this extended mile contest and could pose a threat from a workable mark. He has shown he's still capable of putting in good performances this year, and this could be his time to strike.
