Newcastle, 15:42 - Back Showtime Mahomes E/W @ 22/123.00
Grant Tuer-trained Showtime Mahomes struck at Southwell over this 6f trip from a 2lb lower mark last month, and, although unable to repeat that feat in two runs since, shouldn't be discounted under Sam James, capable of making his presence felt in this field.
The likeable seven-year-old recorded his penultimate win from a 1lb higher rating at Carlisle last summer, before finishing an excellent fourth from a mark of 72 in a competitive higher class handicap at York. He was beaten only two-and-a-half-lengths by Dicko The Legend that day when holding his own at odds of 16/117.00 in a 22-runner race.
Since then, Showtime Mahomes has put in a number of promising efforts including when a length-and-a-half fourth to Sugar Baby at Redcar from a mark of 70, and when two-lengths behind Zoulu Warrior at Southwell.
From a workable rating, Showtime Mahomes holds each-way claims as he makes his 58th career start. The experienced performer can put in a bold bid and pose a threat as he bids for an eighth career win, a third on the all-weather.

Newcastle, 16:12 - Back Outrun The Storm E/W @ 9/110.00
Equipped with a first-time visor, Outrun The Storm could outrun his odds for Richard Fahey under capable 5lb claimer Warren Fentiman. He's now 14lb lower than his last winning mark at Chester a couple of summers ago, and, although he's dropped significantly in the weights, he has been able to put in a few competitive efforts from a higher mark since then.
The course-and-distance winner hasn't been seen to best effect in recent runs but is in even calmer waters here, and should be able to hold his own if he can return to some form, with the addition of headgear possibly able to spark some improvement.
The experienced eight-year-old is on a mark from which he can be competitive and it may prove worth keeping the faith in him. He is proven at the track over the trip and has been able to perform well from a much higher rating over the past year.
Last March, Outrun The Storm was able to make the frame at odds of 33/134.00 when a length-and-three-quarters third to Mr Baloo at this venue in a higher class contest when rated 71, and later was only narrowly denied on his return to the Roodee by Profit Refused from a rating of 65.
In recent months, the son of Footstepsinthesand has shown he still retains ability with a third-placed effort at Redcar to Rapido Girl. He can thunder home in this 7f contest, and warrants each-way consideration.
