Katie Midwinter has three tips from Clonmel and Southwell

Horse Racing tipster Katie Midwinter has three selections from Clonmel and Southwell to consider on the Betfair Sportsbook this Thursday...

  • Plains Indian makes most appeal at Clonmel

  • Likeable mare Onebrightbluerose can be competitive

  • Jersey Rocks holds each-way chance

13:30 Clonmel - Back Plains Indian @ 9/110.00

Andrew Slattery-trained Plains Indian could be worth siding with at the weights in this handicap hurdling contest.

A Listed winner, he beat now 134-rated hurdler The Friday Man to achieve black-type success at Limerick two years ago, having previously finished fourth to Champ Kiely in Grade Three company. A mark of 127 appears workable enough as he returns over hurdles, stepping back up to three miles.

He ran in the race last year in his first and only attempt at the trip, running well until unable to stay on with the leading pack two furlongs out. His stamina was likely tested in heavy ground on that occasion, but he had travelled well enough up to that point to suggest three miles on a sounder surface is within his capabilities. He's 4lbs lower on this occasion, too, again with a 5lb claimer aboard, this time in Cian Quirke.

The eight-year-old has been kept busy in recent months on the Flat, which should set him up nicely for this return to this code at a track where he has run well in the past.

15:15 Clonmel - Back Onebrightbluerose E/W @ 14/115.00

Dropped 1lb for a recent Gowran Park effort, in which she travelled strongly for much of the race and appeared to be coming with a challenge before dropping out of contention, Onebrightbluerose should be suited by this step back up in trip from a workable mark.

The five-year-old mare will enjoy the ground conditions having shown a good level of form during the summer, particularly at Wexford, and she remains on a mark from which she can be competitive for Patrick Cronin.

She has had almost a five week break following her most recent run, which should have allowed her to freshen up somewhat after a busy summer, and a first-time tongue-tie is applied which could allow her to show some improvement, too. Her dam, Give Her Bach, was a winner over fences who finished third on chasing debut, which can instil some confidence in her chances of taking to this new challenge.

Although she is a second reserve and may not get a run, should she line up she makes each-way appeal with five places on offer.

15:45 Southwell - Back Jersey Rocs E/W @ 25/126.00

Jersey Rocs could be worth taking a chance on at Southwell now on a low mark of 60.

The gelded son of Twilight Son has failed to replicate his second to Seven Questions on debut in five starts since his first racecourse experience, but he hasn't looked the most straightforward horse and he has had some issues including when finishing lame at Ripon on his second start.

In his first run as a gelding, he showed some promise in the closing stages when mounting a challenge but appeared to be impeded before stopping quickly. He was too keen in the early stages of his previous start over course-and-distance, and was unable to pose a threat from the rear of the field.

Given his earlier form, however, there could be more to come from him, and he appears to be a type learning with experience. He wears first-time blinkers, which could spark some improvement and allow him to concentrate more.

His trainer Charlie Hills has an overall 22 percent strike-rate at the track and, with in-form Cieren Fallon aboard, Jersey Rocs could be worth a second glance at a price of 25/126.00.
