Saturday Horse Racing Tips and Insight
Dan Skelton has a number of good chances at Wetherby starting with Palamon who heads the Timeform weight-adjusted ratings in the first of their handicap chases.
While not always straightforward, Palamon is clearly in good heart at present, cruising home by a wide margin at Southwell and then looking unlucky not to defy a penalty at Plumpton six days later.
Winner Tapley caused trouble in running for Palamon more than once but that was another good run, and he can gain compensation with blinkers replacing the cheekpieces he's worn for his last two starts.

Not a lot of runners numerically at Wetherby sadly for Charlie Hall Chase day so we stick with Ascot for the weekend double and Dance And Glance in a small field can take the 13:25.
Saturday will be his chase debut which is probably why he is a bigger price than Jet To Vegas, who has already faced the larger ones five times and a win.
However, Dance And Glance had a fair level of form hurdling and landed a Pertemps Final race at Haydock in April and subsequently finished third in the Swinton.
He came from furthest back in the field in that feature race and looked unlucky at various points without a clear run and I can see the extra couple of furlongs on Saturday over the fences suiting him.
As of Friday pre-racing, his trainer Anthony Honeyball was on the hotlist with 4-10 at 40%.

A pair of Grade 2s (West Yorkshire Hurdle and Charlie Hall Chase) highlight Wetherby's Saturday action but they are ably supported by this listed mares' hurdle and last year's winner Kateira is a strong fancy to retain her crown.
That win came in just a two-runner contest, but it effectively became a solo as her only rival Golden Ace shaped as if amiss and ended up being beaten miles by Kateira.
This year's renewal has attracted a slightly bigger field but the selection's four rivals have a bit to find on form and they'll have to go some if they want to take down the defending champ.
La Conquiere is probably the most interesting of them, but she'll need to improve to match the level that Kateira has already shown herself capable of.

Martator is one of those rare Venetia Williams runners who doesn't need deep ground to be at his best and he looks good value to go close in a race where he's developed a good record in the last couple of years.
The selection took this contest on his seasonal bow two years ago and then followed up over C&D later the same month before his form rather tailed off in the second half of the season.
However, he was back on song in the early part of last term, taking second in this contest having had a pipe-opener in the Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter.
Again, he rather lost the plot in a couple of starts after but was right back on song when last seen, taking the 20-runner Grand Annual at the Festival, where a return to good ground appeared to be in his favour.
The stable had a couple that shaped okay returning from breaks earlier in the week and the quick Ascot ground will hold no fears for Martator.

I'm lukewarm on Califet En Vol's chances, likewise Viroflay, and with the Pauling yard so quiet I have put a line through Henry's Friend and Your Darling.
Transmission's jumping is suspect at times but he could be better right-handed and Neil Mulholland applies a set of blinkers for the first time. He scored in a first-time visor at Musselburgh in February.
Philip Hobbs and Johnson White have the keen-going Somespring Special, who can boast a good win-rate but has had a wind op, and I need to see a bit more evidence of him settling.
Tapley is a big enough price here for an each-way with 10 runners and three places on the Betfair Sportsbook. He gets the nod.

Twinjets has crept up the handicap. He's been a good handicapper, he's rated 152, but basically Pic d'Orhy will be very hard to beat, as last season he had a penalty, but this season he doesn't because he didn't win last year. And if you look at the advantage he has in the handicap, he'll be very hard to beat, and almost a certainty.
My only concern with him is I'm not convinced he'll want the ground as fast as it is, but if Pic d'Orhy is on song, he'll win. We've just got to do our best to try and put it up to him and some of the others, but it's a good race and we'll be doing our best.
We had Pic d'Orhy since he was three years old (now with Dan Skelton) and look at some of the races we've won with him. It's the softest race he's run in for a long time by far, when you think he took on Jonbon last year, ran second in this race to a smart one from the Venetia Williams yard (Djelo), so you'd have to think he'll be tough to beat if he's on song, but we can only try. We've got a mountain to climb to beat him.
Because of his handicap mark, where else do you go with Twinjets? He does like a small field, and he stays three miles, he loves fast ground and he's got to go left-handed, so lots of positives, but he'll need a career best for him to win.

Tom Lacey-trained Gibbs Island is one to note each-way from a mark of 131 under Stan Sheppard. He's 1lb below his last winning mark and may come on for his disappointing opening run of the season.
Better than shown on reappearance at Chepstow, Gibbs Island has performed with credit at the Cheltenham Festival in a handicap won by recent winner Wilful earlier in the year, finishing seventh of 23 runners at odds of 50/151.00 in deep waters on that occasion. The year prior, he had landed three successes and looked an exciting prospect for the yard.
Far from being fully exposed, it may be worth keeping the faith in the five-year-old gelding, who has the ability to bounce back and return to form.

Michael McCarthy-trained Formidable Man appears at a big price considering he chased home Notable Speech in this race twelve months ago. Whilst it will be a tough task for him to reverse that formline, he holds each-way claims under John Velazquez and shouldn't be discounted.
The five-year-old was well-beaten by Haatem when last seen in the Mint Millions Invitational Stakes at Kentucky Downs, but he didn't run his race as the favourite on that occasion and wasn't at the same level as when only narrowly denied in his previous start at Del Mar.
Earlier in the season, Formidable Man added another Grade One to his record when beating Almendares in a Santa Anita contest. Although he isn't in the same form coming into this race as in last year's renewal, he has proven his credentials at the top level once again this season and shouldn't be overlooked having performed well in the Breeders' Cup previously.

The shortest price favourite on the card is Nitrogen at 4/51.80 but she's a filly who tends to do her best work on the front end and she's another who won't find it easy to slip away from the field with plenty of other pace signed on.
Jose Ortiz is again on this one and if he's adamant he wants the front on this filly they could end up going a shade too quickly.
With that in mind, I'm really keen on the Chad Brown/Flavien Prat partnership once again as they team up with Fully Subscribed.
This daughter of Tiz The Law has been most impressive on her last two starts in particular and this race looks like it could set up perfectly for her.
Although the numbers don't quite suggest it just yet, she could actually be the best filly in the field regardless of how the race unfolds and her proven ability of this course and distance is a big plus.

In the Breeders' Cup Classic, Sovereignty could finally land the ultimate prize having missed out on the race when a non-runner last year in the renewal won by Forever Young.
The defending champion will be tough to beat and the William Mott-trained colt hasn't looked quite as invincible this year having suffered two defeats from three starts, but he was dominant over Nitrogen in the Grade One Whitney Stakes when last seen and may be ready to peak at the right time in only his fourth start of the year.
Brilliant as a three-year-old last term, the son of Into Mischief was an impressive winner of the Kentucky Derby over Journalism before he landed the Belmont Stakes and Travers Stakes, as well as another Grade Two prize.
It may be 12 months later than planned, but Sovereignty could finally land this hugely prestigious contest in the hands of Junior Alvarado in a thrilling renewal.
