Newbury - 12:30: Back Hunter Legend @ 9/25.50
Hunter Legend had a baptism of fire for the season return when featuring in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham a fortnight ago, and all in all, I don't think Venetia Williams would have been too disappointed with the comeback.
He was going to be a little rusty, and anchored out the back, he looked a bit short of pace too over the shorter 2m4f on that occasion. Even though he scored at Bangor over the 2m4f last term, in a better grade, he looks as though a return to 2m6f with some soft will suit him better.
Indeed, if a bit of rain arrives it will help rather than hinder his Saturday chances and he put in a great round of jumping at Leicester last season. He is down in class, stays and jumps, from 128 with Venetia hopefully warming into a little form, he can kick us off with a good price.

Newbury - 13:05: Back Kalkbrenner @ 3/14.00
The winners are rolling out from the Ben Pauling yard. He fired in a nice prospect at Newbury on Friday and Kalkbrenner looks another nice young one to fly a little higher.
Kalkbrenner didn't do an awful lot in a Bumper at Ayr in April on his first start for Pauling, but he was a different proposition winning at Ffos Las in the soft when upped to 2m4f for his hurdles debut. He travelled into the straight well and passed Swindon Village (who finished third) with ease. It turned into a dash as they bypassed the two out hurdle, but he was quick enough to deal with that and went again.
Pauling's comments from the Sporting Life stable tour show the trainer clearly likes him: "I think he has got everything to become a top class horse.
"He is an exceptional work horse without even having to look like he tries. All his work is behind the bridle and I think he is a proper animal.
"We are likely to start over two miles and step him up later in the season as he would probably want two and a half miles in those better races."

Newbury - 13:40: Back French Ship @ 3/14.00
French Ship didn't take up an engagement at Cheltenham two weeks ago at the Paddy Power meeting and the five-year-old hurdler still looks ahead of his current mark of 136 for Philip Hobbs and Johnson White.
He was most impressive winning at Prestbury Park at the October meeting, and when I fancied him in my Saturday multiples column two weeks ago before he was a non-runner, I highlighted he strongly he finished off his race despite hanging to his left. With that in mind, Newbury could well be an ideal track for him.
He looks a more relaxed horse too now and could stretch out beyond the trip, but 2m4f in softish conditions look tailor-made and Harry Cobden has also been booked for the Hobbs-White axis.
