Saturday Racing Multi Tips: Follow Ayr and Newbury pair for a 29/1 double

Alan Dudman returns with his Saturday Racing Multiple for ITV and he previews Ayr and Newbury with a 29/130.00 double...

Ayr, 14:20 - Back Captain Hugo @ 5/16.00

Captain Hugo has been a fast improving novice this term and the Philip Hobbs and Johnson White youngster can take another step forward in the Coral Scottish Champion Hurdle.

Priced at 5/16.00, he is behind Tellherthename and Tutti Quanti in the betting - who both were well beaten at Cheltenham.

Hobbs has boxed clever by skipping the Festival after his Morebattle win at Kelso and that should be an advantage. Johnson White said after Kelso he takes his racing well and Cheltenham was never the plan.

He's a good traveller but he fell in the Scottish Supreme at Musselburgh when runing a decent race, and while his jumping needs to sharpen up a little the ground here is in his favour and going left-handed is a plus too.

Newbury, 14:35 - Back Lion's Pride @ 4/15.00

Even the goodwill of the entire nation wasn't enough for Constitution Hill to turn up for Saturday's John Porter which leaves Nicky Henderson evading all and sundry.

The veteran Al Aasy won this race in 2021 and at his grand age of nine years of age, is shorter in the betting than Lion's Pride, who looks far more of a bet here.

He holds a Yorkshire Cup entry next month and this being a tricky time of year, we have to weigh up whether this will be a run needed as a prep or he'll be on full speed here. John Gosden enjoyed a good Craven meeting so his horses are well forward.

Lion's Pride was seen in Doha and Bahrain over the winter in Group company - falling a little short, but he was so impressive at Newmarket winning by 7L last September that he is clearly capable at this sort of level.

At 12f he recorded an electric 12.19 seconds with horses in second and fourth rated 119 and 114 mustering 13.06 and 13.75 final furlongs.

At 4/15.00 the boat was slightly missed in terms of price when he was 6s at some stage, but the race has cut up and he is still relatively lightly-raced for a six-year-old.
