Del Maro's juvenile form included a third in the Zetland Stakes behind Pierre Bonnard - a race at the time which looked good, with Pierre Bonnard now, perhaps less so. However, I always take the view that the Zetland is a race for a stayer.
He disappointed in the Chester Vase behind Benevuto Cellini last time, but the track can be tricky at the best of times, add to that the state of going with sand and no one seemed to know what sort of state the turf was in.
I still think he's a promising stayer and Chester was at a time Charlie Appleby's horses were in rotten nick. They still are totally to turn the corner, but he's got headgear on today with the trainer's stats using cheekpieces 21% win and 36% placed from nearly 300 runners.

Earth Shot's 5L win at Newbury was quite special, but the price for Saturday is not.
We can back Brilliant Star at four times the price here and she has been just as impressive visually and ran a very fast time at Yarmouth in a novice winning by 10L, and came away from her next run at Kempton under a penalty with a victory by just the nine wickets.
A super pedigree as a Cracksman and daughter of Star Catcher, a filly Gosden trained, the qukck conditions will very much suit her.

A 2m 0-100 Handicap here and stepping back up to a more suitable distance should be in the favour of Charlie Johnston's Pole Star.
He ran over 1m6f last time in a stronger race at Newmarket on quick ground, with the trip slightly against him on fast going, but he was just behind a horse rated in the mid 90s and the pace with a finishing speed of nudging 108% for the winner wouldn't have suited.
A return to Haydock is clearly a plus as he won twice at the track last term over 1m3f and 1m6f and both on good ground and one of those wins saw him come from a long way back off the pace to scramble home by a short head.
Haydock suits and the 2m can draw some improvement.

I fancied Drop Dead Gorgeous for the Irish 1000 Guineas earlier this week in my antepost column, and while she was cut in price and was 8/19.00 two days ago which led me to think we could have been in business, Aidan O'Brien has taken the easier option to run in the Gallinule.
Still, were not exactly in shallow waters as Causeway is the 6/52.20 fav, but Drop Dead Gorgeous was the one to take from her race last time finishing third.
She was a little outpaced over the 1m and possibly in a poor slot on the inside but made up ground well, and as O'Brien said she is still babyish and learning, racing in Group 3 over further is the call instead of a Group 1 over shorter.
A pedigree to die for, and a physique that belongs to the land of the giants, I am very much looking forward to seeing her on Saturday as she has huge entries for the rest of the season.
