Sandown NAP - 19:45 - Back Tough Enough
Tough Enough was progressive in three starts last year, opening his account in a minor event over six furlongs at Wolverhampton in November, and he showed improved form to follow up on his return and handicap debut at Windsor in June.
He was given a patient ride on that occasion, tactics which aren't often seen to best effect at Windsor, but he burst through in the closing stages to win going away, looking like a horse ahead of his mark.
That form has worked out well and Tough Enough was far from disgraced in a much stronger handicap at Newmarket last time, the only one to make any inroads from the rear and leaving the impression he's still in top form. He should be well suited by this move up to seven furlongs and remains a horse to be positive about.
Sandown - 19:15 - Back Muktamil
Muktamil was steadily progressive at up to a mile last season, hitting the frame in some good races at Newbury and Salisbury on his last two starts, the latest won by subsequent Irish Oaks runner-up Bluestocking.
He is bred to excel over middle distances this year, however, so he looks very interesting on his return from 10 months off now handicapping over a mile and a quarter. Muktamil has also been gelded and an opening mark of 74 could well underestimate him.
