Kempton NAP - 19:30 - Back Ernie's Valentine
Ernie's Valentine hasn't won for nearly two years, his form a little in and out on turf so far this year, but as a result he has fallen down the weights, and is potentially well treated now back on the all-weather.
He wasn't seen to best effect on his latest start at Newmarket in June, never able to land a blow from the rear of the field, but his record on an artificial surface on the whole is a more positive one, placed and even winning races from higher marks in the past.
The return to seven furlongs is a plus and he seems sure to go close if back to his best now having fallen below his last winning mark.
Kempton Next Best - 20:30 - Back Open Champion
Admittedly, Open Champion has been bitterly disappointing on the Flat for these connections so far this season, finishing nearer last than first on his last three starts.
All of those efforts have come in stronger handicaps than the one he finds himself in now, though, and he looked promising for Roger Varian last year before changing hands for £70,000.
Open Champion is now fitted with a first-time visor and is now operating from a career-low mark, so he is worth one last chance to bounce back to form given his pedigree and physique (has plenty of size about him).
