Plenty of promise shown in points
Fairyhouse 15:37: Zaidi 1pt win 15/8
Search For Glory is the odds-on favourite for this PTP bumper and he won well on debut before being bought for £200,000 by Gordon Elliott but in Zaidi, I think he faces a tougher rival than the market currently suggests.
He made a promising debut in November last year when finishing third behind Monbeg Park. He was held up before making headway on the long run to 3 out. That headway continued approaching 2 out as Snowy Evening quickened in front but Zaidi's progress was halted by a mistake and pitching slightly on landing. He couldn't get back to the front pair after that and finished eight lengths behind the winner in third.
Zaidi got off the mark later in the month on his second start when given plenty to do to catch the two leaders. He was still about twelve lengths behind jumping 2 out but picked up well under pressure, taking the lead halfway up the run-in and winning by a couple of lengths.
In both races I think he showed the qualities needed to transfer the ability shown in points to a bumper and those were two good maidens that he contested, achieving a level in those starts on a par with what Search For Glory achieved in his debut victory.
There is a concern that Zaidi has been off the track since his win just under a year ago so might have had a problem that means he can't repeat the ability he showed in those two races but with sales coming up, I expect they will have him spot on in terms of fitness and hopefully he can build on the promise he showed last year. Any 7/4 or bigger appeals.
