Rhys Williams has analysed Thursday's racing and has a sole selection at a big price at Taunton...
- Improved for first time cheekpieces
- Faced impossible tasks of late
- Rhys Williams thinks Treacys Jim is overpriced at Taunton
Far more realistic task
Taunton 15:35: Treacys Jim 1pt e/w 50/1
Treacys Jim was well placed to pick up prize money for finishing third at Newton Abbot this season in races where he had little chance of winning but on the one occasion he had a realistic opportunity, he ran well in defeat.
That was four starts ago when he raced from 6lb out of the handicap and cheekpieces were applied for the first time.
He was sent to the front from the off and after jumping a bit high at the first few fences, he got into a better jumping rhythm. He was pushed along to briefly go a few lengths clear after jumping 4 out before being joined at the water jump. Once challenged, he went on again and the same happened after 2 out but once left with a couple of lengths advantage after the last, he idled badly and was caught by Kilchreest Moon on the line.
Every time Treacys Jim gained an advantage, he idled and allowed rivals to join him which suggests he could have more to offer now racing off a 3lb higher mark today. The application of cheekpieces appeared to help to some degree and this will be only the second time that he has a realistic chance with them on while the ground is also in his favour.
I think this is quite a strong race for the grade and it's not ideal to be coming into a race on the back of a fall but I think the market has completely overlooked Treacys Jim's chance and any 20/1 or bigger appeals.
