Rhys Williams thinks Torula is overpriced at Chepstow
Could bounce back after wind op
Chepstow 12:00: Torula 0.5pt e/w 50/1
Torula was beaten 55 lengths on his rules debut at Lingfield last month but I think he's capable of better than that and could bounce back at a big price in this opening novices' hurdle.
He started his career in an Irish point for Ian McCarthy and made a promising debut when finishing second at Carrigarostig. He briefly went to the front at 4 out before being reined back and then jumped back into a clear advantage at 3 out.
On the long run to 2 out, he gradually wound up the pace and Senior Chief was the only one that could match him. They jumped 2 out and the last together before Torula had little left on the climb to the line and faded to finish second.
The winner has since run well in defeat in two starts under rules while the third won a maiden next time and Torula was bought for £55,000 following this to join Ben Pauling.
He made his first start for his new yard over 2m3½f at Lingfield and he travelled well in a prominent position from an early stage until he was pushed along and found nothing running down the hill to 2 out and wasn't given a hard time after.
He's since had a wind op which will hopefully result in him finishing off the race stronger today and a repeat of the tactics used at Lingfield would be a positive for his chance around this track, particularly now dropping in trip to 2m.
It might be that the wind op will have no impact and he will once again finish weakly or that he lacks the class of a few of his rivals but I think he's overpriced given the ability he showed on his point debut and any 25/1 or bigger appeals.
