I'm not put off by Fierce Warrior's pulled-up effort, when we last saw him in action. That was a rare blip and he has been given plenty of time to recuperate. The Nicky Henderson-trained runner scored over 3m2f prior to that, in a race which has worked out well. This represents a good chance to bounce back to form, especially with the cheekpieces refitted.
Beset holds plenty of appeal, returning for what promises to be an exciting season. The Joseph O'Brien-trained mare was progressive last season, ending her campaign with a Listed win at Curragh. She goes well fresh and comes out top on official ratings. I'm hopeful of a big run with ground conditions in her favour.
The consistent Diamatiste is likely to run a bold race for a trainer arriving in fine form. Kayley Woollacott has scored with her last two runners, and although saddling two here, I'm siding with Diamatiste. The selection finished second over track and trip, before running an excellent runner-up position in a stronger Ascot handicap hurdle. If he repeats the dose here, I can see him being among the placers once more.
Despite runners from the Aidan O'Brien yard I give Sanctijude solid claims of finishing in the first three for trainer Willie McCreery. The daughter of Churchill ran into the placings in her last three races, including at Gowran Park in October. I'm hopeful that her experience will see her go close here, with an official rating of 84 a good barometer of her ability.
