Kathab had some strong form in the book and didn't need to improve to open his account in a mile maiden at Ripon in July.
Indeed, that wasn't much of a race, but he progressed a chunk when following up on handicap debut at Haydock in August, really impressing with how he put the race to bed in the closing stages.
He has lost little in defeat on his last couple of starts, too, recording a career best when runner-up in a competitive handicap at Kempton last month.
Kathab got going a little too late on that occasion but the return to turf will suit and he seems sure to go close again from this mark.
Goodwood Next Best - 15:00 - Back Monsieur Kodi
Monsieur Kodi was an impressive winner of a heavy-ground course and distance handicap earlier in the year, and he hasn't been disgraced in defeat on livelier ground since, beaten only five lengths in the Ayr Silver Cup last time.
The return to testing conditions will be very much in his favour - he revels in the mud - and, just 2 lb higher than his win in August, he makes plenty of appeal back at this venue.
