Timeform on Trueshan

Timeform bring you their comprehensive runner-by-runner guide to Saturday's Ebor Handicap and pick out their 1-2-3.

1. Deja (Peter Chapple-Hyam/ Harry Bentley)
Progressive sort with an excellent strike rate who finished runner-up in the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot on his reappearance and then improved to land the Old Newton Cup at Haydock last month. Was strong in the finish on that occasion and will be suited by the step up to a mile and three-quarters. Has the potential for even better.

2. Communique - NON RUNNER

3. Trueshan (Alan King/ Martin Harley)
Rapid improver last season, winning four of his five starts, and has also created a good impression this term, just getting the verdict in a tight finish to a mile-and-a-half listed race at Haydock last month. Remains unexposed over a mile and three-quarters and should give another good account.

4. Fujaira Prince (Roger Varian/ Andrea Atzeni)
Lightly raced six-year-old who returned from a year off the track with an impressive success in the Copper Horse Handicap at Royal Ascot, relishing the step up in trip on his first attempt over a mile and three-quarters. Looks to have been saved for this race since and a 9 lb rise in the weights for that three-and-three-quarter-length success should not prevent a bold bid.

5. Pablo Escobarr (William Haggas/ Tom Marquand)
Smart performer with a consistent profile who bagged a Group 3 at Glorious Goodwood last month. Untested over a mile and three-quarters but his likeable attitude should continue to hold him in good stead.

6. True Self (Willie Mullins/ Jason Watson)
Smart mare who has yet to find her top form this year, not finishing off her race when only sixth in the Munster Oaks at Cork last time. However, she finished sixth in this race last year off a 2 lb higher mark so cannot be ruled out. First-time tongue tie added to the hood she wore last time.

7. Ghostwatch (Charlie Appleby/ William Buick)
Proved steadily progressive in 2018, winning on four occasions, including over course and distance in the Melrose. Missed last season but has shown he retains his ability in three runs this year. However, he will need to raise his game a little to take this.

8. Pondus (Joseph O'Brien/Jamie Spencer)
Showed smart form for James Fanshawe last season and won a mile-and-a-half listed race at Roscommon last month on his second start for Joseph O'Brien. Disappointed at Leopardstown last time but is the type to bounce back quickly and is entitled to respect on his first attempt at a mile and three-quarters.

9. Floating Artist - NON RUNNER

10. El Misk (John Gosden/ Nicky Mackay)
Proved steadily progressive as a three-year-old, winning three times on the all-weather. Proved he's as effective on turf when only just denied in a listed race at Newmarket on his comeback in June but he was disappointing when sixth behind Trueshan in another listed event at Haydock last month.

11. Stargazer (Philip Kirby/ Kevin Stott)
Has a good turn of foot for a stayer and has compiled a good record on the all-weather at Newcastle. Hasn't been seen since winning there over two miles in April last year, so this is a stiff task after such a long layoff.

12. Scarlet Dragon (Alan King/ Hollie Doyle)
Versatile seven-year-old who gained a first win on the Flat since his three-year-old days when swooping late to overhaul Deja in the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot. Possibly found the race coming a bit too soon when only seventh behind that rival in the Old Newton Cup, but still shaped as if in decent form.

13. Alright Sunshine (Keith Dalgleish/ Shane Gray)
Proved highly progressive last season, winning four times, showing useful form. Only eighth behind Fujaira Prince in the Copper Horse Handicap at Royal Ascot, but things didn't go his way that day, and, representing a yard in form, he can't be discounted.

14. King's Advice (Mark Johnston/ Joe Fanning)
Enjoyed a remarkable campaign last season, recording eight wins from his first nine starts for Mark Johnston. Was well beaten in this last season, however, and he's struggled this year, failing to score in eighth starts.

15. Shailene (Andrew Balding/ Oisin Murphy)
Useful mare who won a couple of times last season, including in a listed race in Italy, and she ran as well as she's ever done when a half-length second to Hochfeld in a handicap over this trip at Glorious Goodwood last time. Needs to raise her game to win this, however.

16. Monica Sheriff (William Haggas/ Danny Tudhope)
Was beaten on her debut last season but then proved most progressive, winning all five subsequent starts, including a Group 3 at Saint-Cloud over a mile and three-quarters. Hasn't been seen since that victory last October and this is a difficult ask on her rather belated return, but it's likely she has more to offer.

17. Ranch Hand (Andrew Balding/ PJ McDonald)
Unexposed four-year-old who shaped well in the Copper Horse and Old Newton Cup on his first two runs this term, and ran about as well as could have been expected when fourth in a listed race over course and distance last time. Not badly treated on his return to handicap company and could still have a bit more to offer.

18. Verdana Blue (Nicky Henderson/ Ryan Moore)
Grade 1-winning hurdler who ran a cracker when runner-up in the Ascot Stakes over two and a half miles at the Royal meeting. Remains unexposed on the Flat and she certainly has the speed to cope with drop back to a mile and three-quarters. Has to enter the equation.

19. Euchen Glen (Jim Goldie/ Paul Mulrennan)
Won the John Smith's Cup over a mile and a quarter here in 2018 but missed all of last season. Has shown he retains his ability since returning from that long lay-off and, while he may be slightly flattered by the form of his fifth in the Goodwood Cup last time, he is on a handy mark.

20. Island Brave (Heather Main/ David Egan)
Sprang a surprise when bouncing back to winning ways over two miles at Ascot a fortnight ago but he's 6 lb higher here and there's little in his record to suggest he'll be capable of defying such a mark in a race this competitive. Looks up against it.

21. Jeremiah (Charlie Fellowes/ Jim Crowley)
Missed all of last season but shaped with promise on his first couple of outings before producing an improved performance in first-time blinkers to score at Ascot over a mile and a half. Shaped as if still in good form when down the field over that course and distance in a messy race last time. Unexposed over a mile and three-quarters, so cannot be ruled out with his yard in good form.

22. Glencadam Glory (Tim Easterby/ David Allan)
Showed useful form for John Gosden in 2018 and, having missed last season, shaped with encouragement on his third start for this yard when sixth in the Old Newton Cup. Wasn't beaten far when fifth at Ripon last time and, with the return to a mile and three-quarters sure to suit, he is one who could go well at bigger odds.

23. Dash of Spice (David Elsworth/ Cieren Fallon)
Progressed well in handicaps in 2018, winning the Duke of Edinburgh Stakes at Royal Ascot. Has shaped as if retaining ability in two starts following a long absence, but hasn't shown enough to suggest he's up to winning this.

24. Hochfeld (Mark Johnston/ Silvestre de Sousa)
Has gradually hit form this season and capitalised on a falling mark to score over this trip at Goodwood last time. Is 5 lb higher here but remains well treated on his old form, so cannot be dismissed.

Timeform's Ebor Handicap Analyst Verdict
TRUESHAN knuckled down really well to win a Haydock listed race last time and his campaign looks to have been geared around this race. The return to a mile and three-quarters could potentially seeing him in an even better light so he gets the vote. There are any number of possible dangers, headed by easy Royal Ascot winner Fujaira Prince, the thriving Deja and very classy hurdler Verdana Blue. Jeremiah is one who could go well at bigger odds.

1. Trueshan
2. Fujaira Prince
3. Deja
