The champion jockey Brian Hughes rides one of Alan's selections today

"This isn't a strong race and I am fairly confident with the way she travelled to win over hurdles in soft ground at Newcastle that she should make the first three."

Another second yesterday was the best the column could come up with, but the Daily Racing Multiple heads to Sedgefield for Thursday's action with an each-way double...

Go down the Lane with potential Smith revival

14:42 Sedgefield - Back Iskabeg Lane

With 10 runners we have an ideal opportunity to start on the front foot for our each-way multiple today with three places and Iskabeg Lane is the horse to follow over fences.

He's a lazy sort but over these staying distances of 3m2f, there is a bit more to work with, especially with a 9/1 price on the Sportsbook.

Last time out he was beaten out of sight in third - well behind Sigurd who is the top weight, but his form is symptomatic of his trainer's, as Sue Smith just hasn't fired at all this term with just eight winners. Usually you can rely on Smith around the northern tracks.

Iskabeg Lane has placed second or third in 50% of his 20 runs over fences and with placed form off much higher marks in 2019, he deserves an each-way nomination.

Bay has solid claims under the champion jockey

16:45 Sedgefield - Back Tortuga Bay

The 16:45 looks a poor race but Tortuga Bay is unexposed and has a big chance of winning if she can replicate her debut run over fences at Catterick.

She jumped well, although those fences aren't the stiffest, but there was something there before she faded into fourth.

One or two issues have bothered her, especially her wind as she's had two ops, but this isn't a strong race and I am fairly confident with the way she travelled to win over hurdles in soft ground at Newcastle that she should make the first three.
