Daryl Carter's Tips: Back De Bromhead's Boogie to go close in Hilly Way

Daryl Carter has two selections on Sunday.

Daryl Carter has two bets on Sunday, and he says El Fabiolo will be hard to beat at Cork, but Jungle Boogie can prove best of the rest...

  • Two Sunday selections

  • First Encore has a good chance to shed his Maiden tag at Wolves

  • Jungle Boogie can come off best of the rest at Cork

13:50 Wolverhampton - Back First Encore @ BSP 1pt

First Encore shaped with considerable promise at Kempton when they stepped him up to 1m on handicap debut despite taking a strong grip and having run with extreme credit, the drop back seven furlongs into a Maiden contest can see him get in the winner's enclosure.

Ed Walker's two-year-old has improved race on race and has had some stiff tasks in four outings. He was too green on debut to do himself just justice at Newbury (6f) and improved next time to chase home the brilliant Task Force (rated 112) at Salisbury (6f) and a subsequent winner of William Haggas' but finished nicely clear of now 90, 81 and 80 rated runners in fourth, fifth and sixth in a race that has produced multiple winners.

He flopped at Haydock but was gelded four days later and returned to the track with a solid one-length third at Kempton at big odds in what was a deep Nursery Handicap.

Today's contest is far weaker on the balance, and more emphasis on speed at this Wolverhampton track should suit. He is favoured over Frightening, who, with a repeat of her debut third, would have a say but needs to bounce back from a flop at Kempton last time, while her debut run is yet to offer any substance in form.

I expect money to come for Frightening, who will prove popular, so the advice is to back him at BSP.

14:15 Cork - Back Jungle Boogie W/O El Fabiolo @ 12/53.40 1.5pt

Jungle Boogie must defy a significant absence of 708 days, but he has proven he can go well fresh with his former handler Willie Mullins, and the devastating display he put in on his chase debut at Fairyhouse when last seen is still fresh in the mind.

He has only had three starts and remains unbeaten, scoring in a Bumper, Maiden Hurdle and his Beginners Chase. The form of his only chase start when an easy 12-length victor over the 142-rated Doil Ker over 2m5f marked him down as a mid-150s horse - and that's being conservative.

The reports suggest he is working well for his new handler, Henry De Bromhead, and given Rachael Blackmore was on board Maskada when a solid favourite at the Dublin Racing Festival and on the yards shorter-priced Grand Annual runner at the Cheltenham Festival after Maskada's flop at Dublin, she seems to have chosen Jungle Boogie.

Although Jungle Boogie receives 10lbs from El Fabiolo, it might be best to look at the W/O market in which he is 12/53.40. That seems more than fair for a horse now nine years old and one that connections will want to waste little time with.

Blackmore has quickly pointed out that Jungle Boogie has made all of the running in her Betting.betfair.com column - an educated guess would assume the same tactics will be installed again.

I'd be confident that Jungle Boogie will trade lower than his current Betfair Exchange price of 17.533/2. Maskada's right-handed record is not unblemished, and she jumped out to the left here at Clonmel on the last day and when a two-length winner over Rebel Gold at Limerick.

Maskada's stand-out performance has come at Cheltenham when winning the Grand Annual, but she has yet to get within ten pounds of that RPR in her career, either previously or since.

Fil Dor ran respectably behind Dino Blue on return, but he is not consistent, and Grand National runner-up Vanillier won't be fully wound up and is running over a trip far too short today.

Jungle Boogie will make his presence felt from the front and follow the excellent El Favbiolo home - although I am tempted to have a small win bet and play him in the W/O ElFabiolo and Maskada market at 13/102.30. However, I am confident he is a better horse than Maskada and Fil Dor.
