Chance new headgear and gelding op to see the best of Botti's Bay
19:30 Chelmsford - Back Urban Sprawl @ 7/24.50 1pt
Urban Sprawl - 7/24.50 on the Betfair Sportsbook - has been in fine fettle in recent months in the new cheek-pieces and although continuing to find one too good is frustrating, the drop into Class 4 company may be enough to see him finally get over the line.
His last attempt in this grade saw him bump into a very well-handicapped fellow class dropper in Fantastic Fox who went in again next time, and he had today's favourite Court Of Session behind.
He has been holding his form well and bumped into the very smart Positive Impact on his last visit to Chelmsford in a hot Class 2 event when a three-length second but readily holding the remainder.
Chelmsford tends to favour those ridden more forward, and with little pace on in this race, he should hold a good position to strike.
He looks worth chancing from a good draw in stall six at 7/24.50 or bigger.
20:30 Chelmsford - Back Carbis Bay @ 8/19.00 0.5pt e/w
This is a tricky contest, but it might be worth chancing Marco Botti's Carbis Bay - [8/]1 on the Betfair Sportsbook - on this return after a short break now fitted with new headgear under jockey Harry Davies, who has a 29% strike rate for this trainer.
The three-year-old had shown promise earlier this year but also a tendency to cock his head and not put it all in at the finish, and today's fitting of the cheek-pieces could bring out further improvement. He was given an opening handicap rating of 82 but is now down to 74 in just three runs, including one on turf.
His turf record is not worth much, but he has done some good work on the AW. He was clear of the remainder on debut behind the smart Canberra Legend (104) at Newcastle and split two rivals rated 84 at the same venue two starts later. He ran with extreme credit in a hot handicap at Kempton despite finishing sixth of nine, and granted this new headgear a break and being newly gelded may be good reasons to think an improved performance is incoming.
The jockey booking of Harry Davies hints that he might be ready to go the first time up, so he is worth chancing at 8/19.00 or bigger.
