The Pipeman holds every chance of winning this modest maiden contest if able to find any natural improvement second time out. The Cotai Glory youngster ran on promisingly at Navan on debut suggesting that a maiden victory is well within reach. The winner of that contest didn't disgrace themselves in Listed company next time. Despite there being a couple of interesting newcomers, I'd be disappointed if the selection wasn't up to at least placing.

I'm confident that Storm Force can improve on an encouraging debut third for his powerful owners. The son of Starspangledbanner was sent off a warm favourite on that first outing, but he ended up running behind the 92-rated Azizam. Any natural improvement would see him go close to winning this, and he should handle the new surface as a half-brother to an all-weather scorer.

A Boy Named Suzi is the clear standout, in the Group 3 Royal Whip Stakes. The three-year-old Starspangledbanner colt has at least 19lb in hand over this small field on official ratings. I know that a race with few runners can pose tactical issues but the selection has displayed admirable versatility in Group One races. A reproduction of either of his fine efforts this term would easily suffice, and I'm grateful to have Oisin Murphy on board.

Leg #4 - 17:45, Pontefract: Fluorescence to Finish Top 2 @ 8/131.61

Fluorescence ran an absolute cracker to finish in the money at Hamilton over this minimum distance. That fine effort (in the same grade) can be upgraded, as she encountered traffic issues when making her move into contention. The Twilight Son filly is a dual winner on a fast surface, which ought to be evident at Pontefract this weekend. She also has an excellent low draw to work from, as well as the trainer and jockey arriving in good form.
