Horse Racing Tips: Two Epsom chances for Tuesday 47/1 double

Epsom
The home of the Derby gets its first airing today with Epsom's Tuesday meeting

Alan Dudman landed a 27/128.00 winning double yesterday - his second winning multiple in five days - and he now has two for Epsom's card on Tuesday...

  • Two winners yesterday at 3.69 and 8.42

  • Knight's handicapper a force in big fields

  • Splendent has the stamina for Cole

Epsom - 15:20: Back Dual Identity

Away from the Blue Riband Trial, Epsom stages the best two races by a country mile on Tuesday with the City & Suburban and Great Metropolitan Handicaps as some of the racing today at Yarmouth and Wolverhampton is of zero interest.

The 15:20 over 1m2f is negated in terms of an each-way bet with just seven runners, but William Knight's Dual Identity is one that could outrun his odds of 5/16.00 for his first run of the season.

He went well fresh back in 2022 running off a break finishing second at York, so there's an obvious plus there, and this looks easier than all of the big handicaps he contested last term.

The 6yo hammered a Class 2 field at Sandown last term by nearly 5L and was only beaten 3L in last term's Cambridgeshire from a mark of 95.

Ground conditions seem to come alike to him, and while the majority of his form is on good ground, he acts on soft and good to soft and I don't see Epsom today as an excuse on that front.

The track might be one question mark as he has raced only once here - but it was a while ago and I would much rather back him at the prices than the Charlie Johnston favourite.

Neil Callan rides Dual Identity and is 11% and 29% win and placed at the track.

Epsom - 15:55: Back Splendent

There's a Group 1 winner in the Great Metropolitan Handicap, although it's a local Group 1 from Kincsem Park in Hungary for Splendent - who won at Overdose's old playground as part of the Frankie Dettori world wide tour (t-shirts no longer available).

He's an interesting runner at the price as the favourite Champagne Piaff offers very little value in this field at 2/13.00, and it looks as though Ryan Moore riding for his father has squeezed the life out of the price.

Splendent stays well and gets further than today's 1m4f and should improve with his first run of the season under his belt when well held in the Queen's Prize Handicap at Kempton earlier this month.

He's been dropped 2lb for that and is near to his winning mark of 85 when sluicing up at Newbury last summer over 1m4f - and he finished strongly there. Indeed four of his last five sectionals were the quickest in the field after the half-way point and he came from the back there having been outpaced.

His York run last term was a good effort too and plenty of winners came out of that race.

Paul and Oliver Cole have started the season in a good manner, especially with their 2yos, so they seem pretty forward.
