Alan Dudman has an each-way 65/1 double
Distillate can back up her latest PB
Back Distillate @ 5/1 in the 19:30 at Dundalk
With the Irish Flat season due to kick off this weekend with the Curragh and Naas providing some exceptional racing, I am very much in the mood for a couple of Flat darts on Friday evening at Dundalk.
Ado McGuinness is often an old friend for the column and his Distillate produced a career-best last time to scrape home by a nose over 7f here, and I am hoping she can go in again at 5/1.
She had the tongue strap applied for the first time for her victory, and the combination of the aid and the step up to 7f really suited her - although her victory by a nose was so tight, I thought she had been beaten on the line. She did hit 190.0189/1 in the run, so I wasn't alone.
The selection is experienced and has plenty of form around here, but she travelled well enough down the centre of the track last time and I liked the way she squeezed in between runners to go through with her effort.
Her trainer is a dab hand at getting a bit more out of his handicappers, and claimer Cian MacRedmond got it right last time by taking a lead just tucked in behind, as he made the running on her previously over 6f.
Acclaim looks exquisitely treated
Back Exquisite Acclaim @ 10/1 in the 20:00 at Dundalk
McGuinness has some good chances tonight with Bowerman running on the card, but he is double-handed in the 20:00 and I prefer his claims with the 9/1 Exquisite Acclaim over his more-fancied runner Jaafel.
Exquisite Acclaim could drift too, and I never mind that from the yard.
He ran a fair race in a good quality 7f Handicap last time and remains on 87, and is well-handicapped considering he was rated at 98 at one stage - although that did look somewhat unrealistic.
The 4yo has been in deep at Listed and Group level, and wasn't beaten far in a Premier Handicap at the Curragh during the turf season, and with Adam Caffrey booked with his 7lb claim, I can see him running a big race this evening.
I don't mind stall 10 either, as it gives Caffrey the option of pegging over to the near-side.
His price will also give us the option for an each-way double on the Sportsbook.
