Dundalk - 17:15: Back Dream Today @ 17/29.50
A couple of recent selections at Dundalk for the column really highlighted how difficult winning from a wide draw can be. For that reason we've got a couple of notebook horses with Hurricane Helen and Omakase, but for Friday, Dream Today can hopefully get us rolling for the first leg at a decent price of 17/29.50.
Now in the care of rookie trainer Stephen Thorne, he runs off a lenient mark of 81 and Thorne has been the beneficiary of the Shamrock Thoroughbred horses who have left Ado McGuinness via the route of Jack Davison.
Thorne recently got on the board with his first and second career wins but he'll know this horse well from his time with McGuinness and hopefully he can put his good draw in one to use, something he wasn't able to do last time with a poor effort at the track.
However, his form is very patchy these days with no consistency but his third behind the prominent-running Little Queenie reads well in the context of this race and that was over 5f, a trip that might just be a little too quick for him these days. Little Queenie was right up with the pace to win and the second made the running, so Dream Today did well for the bronze medal coming from a little further back.
He also looked to be under pressure into the straight so I can see the return to 6f as a big positive here. His sectionals for that third at the track were still pretty handy with three sub 11-second splits.
The assessor has taken a real old swipe with a drop from 86 to 81 and with the draw, he might go well at a price.

Dundalk - 20:15: Back Castleheath @ 8/19.00
Another runner with a good draw tonight in one is Castleheath and the three-year-old goes in search of his first win on the All-Weather at 8/19.00.
He was recently seen over 1m behind Mags - who finally broke a run of placed efforts to win. Castleheath finished in fifth but the trip was far too short and it's a good move tonight going back up to 1m2f.
He finished just behind Future Cutlet (who was fourth), and he was a selection for the column that day who looked inconvenienced by being held up. The fact Future Cutlet was unexposed into that with a good profile keeps me interested in Castleheath who has the first-time headgear on this evening.
Castleheath started the season on 77 and he's now on 69 with a claiming jockey taking off 10lbs. He was ridden prominently to win his Maiden at Sligo and hopefully Nicola Burns can have the horse in a good position from his advantageous draw as he'll be much better suited to 1m2f.
