Alan Dudman picks out a 9/1 Sportsbook multiple for Wednesday
Welsh Charger's form should be too strong despite large field
Back Welsh Charger @ Evens in the 14:35 at Ludlow
A very good 5L win for Windtothelightning yesterday to round off a 10/1 double for Tuesday, and she certainly proved well treated with an excellent display of jumping. And praise also for Nicky Martin's Almost Gotaway for a battling performance too.
Hopefully we can continue in form for Wednesday's action although a rather boring selection at Evens at Ludlow - but it's hard to see Alistair Ralph's Welsh Charger getting beat in Ludlow's 14:35.
The opposition doesn't look particularly strong, and it's all about picking and choosing your battles even if there are 16 runners in the field.
Welsh Charger showed a glimmer of ability in two bumper starts - both on good ground and one at Newbury in a fair race. But he improved on his hurdling debut at Huntingdon behind a 120-rated odds-on favourite and that form looks superior to anything else in the field for this.
His jumping under pressure down the straight was fairly quick and having come wide off the turn to his left, he was darting inside and out trying to get a run against Western Zephyr, and for a brief moment gave him something to think about as he traded at 1.558/15 in defeat in-running. The time figure was reasonable too.
Ralph has had two winners from his last nine runners at 22% and has a 15% strike-rate at Ludlow from the last five seasons.
The selection will stay further and he's a relation to Rhinestone Cowboy.
Imperium to enhance Kempton record
Back Imperium @ 4/1 in the 19:30 at Kempton
Off to Kempton for selection number two, and Imperium deserves another chance after his flop at Wolverhampton last time.
I fancied him for that race, but he was keen and outpaced. Wolverhampton turned out to be too sharp for him and didn't muster the pace to be involved. It was a 0-105, and he's down in grade for this.
He also has been dropped a further 2lb and he is becoming well treated.
Imperium faces the first-time blinkers today, and that will help him with his style. He did win over CD last January with first-time cheekpieces and his trainer Roger Charlton has a 19% strike-rate with blinkers at Kempton and 38% placed.
It's a drop in class tonight and he's an out and out stayer, so Kempton will bring out the best of him - or at least better than Wolverhampton as Kempton is such a demanding finish.
Imperium is also 5-9 at Kempton at 55%.
