Both of Al's tips are from Cartmel today

Alan Dudman is relying on an old staying friend in his Monday multiple in the north...

  • Two selections at Cartmel for Monday

  • Cavendish Cup trip ideal for Tommie

  • Ex Shark runner looks worth a punt

Cartmel - 13:50 - Back Tommie Beau

A decent effort from Flying Frontier in second yesterday at Yarmouth wasn't quite good enough to get the win money - and with the horse drifting out to 10s, it was rather annoying he was a win only bet.

I am hoping we can have a bit of Bank Holiday success at Cartmel on Monday with Tommie Beau in the feature Cavendish Cup - and he's a good price too at 6/17.00.

I'm a sucker for a Seamus Mullins' stayer, and I have put up Tommie Beau before in the column as he stays so well.

So thorough in fact, he's probably worth a back in-running at a higher price.

The 8yo ran over hurdles last time at Newton Abbot, but he patently wasn't quick enough over 21f, especially at hurdler pace.

He has no issues with decent ground, and going up to 3m2f will suit him this afternoon, and with a mark of 130 in range considering he ran from 125 over the smaller ones at the Abbot, I expect him to fare quite well.

I fancied him for the Norfolk National at Fakenham earlier this year, and with form at 3m4f around Stratford, he will stay all day.

Cartmel - 15:30 - Back Camilla's Choice

The 15:30 Handicap Hurdle over 2m6f is interesting as a few form horses might just be a little overpriced.

Sean Bowen and Harry Cobden are head and shoulders above their rivals at the moment - two fine jockeys that don't make too many mistakes. With a few of my selections in mind last month, I wish they rode on the Flat.

Bowen's mount Coal Fire is vaguely interesting at 7/18.00, and Cobden's My Gift To You has scope for improvement off 84, but the jumping needs to improve a little.

It leaves me with Gary Hanmer's Camilla's Choice at 8/19.00, and I don't mind backing runners from that yard.

She's an ex-Shark Hanlon runner who scored pretty decisively last time at Bangor on decent ground.

I like the way she travelled there to win by 6L, and as a 7yo, you'd like to think there's a little more to work with and improve upon.

She has raced over slightly further but she has enough pace for 2m6f.
