Bridge Road can make amends back at Uttoxeter
Back Bridge Road @ 5.04/1 in the 17:13 at Uttoxeter
Ado McGuinness bagged his first win in 55 runners yesterday, but it was the wrong one as Pulse Of Shanghai completely played up and couldn't lead, while Bayou Belle was chinned at 1.091/11 in the run, which was rather unfortunate.
Wednesday's jumping action at Uttoxeter is where we begin, and far from jumping weather as you could imagine. However, Jennie Candlish could be set to score with her Bridge Road, as the yard's runners look to be coming back from a quiet-ish spell in the last two weeks with a pair of winners and pair of seconds from her last 10 sent out.
Bridge Road himself put his head above the parapet to indicate a win might not be too far away with a recent second over CD.
That was the 6yo's first run since February, and we should have every expectation he could improve on that in the same 0-100 grade.
He caught the eye with the way he travelled into the straight and it was no surprise he hit a very low 1.071/14 in-play. Perhaps he made his move too soon on the inside, but Sean Quinlan had little choice with how well he was going, and I suspect the winner's more patient tactics proved to be decisive. To Bridge Road's credit he fought back in a race where the finishing speed was 105%.
Good ground suits and he's unexposed especially at the trip, as the 2m4f last time proved he stayed and it now opens up a few more doors for this son of Lucy's Legend - who hails from the great but quirky Norwich line.
Lee can build on impressive Killarney numbers this term
Back Cactus Tree @ 4.57/2 in the 19:10 at Killarney
Jockey Billy Lee rode a canny race last night from the front at Killarney to win, although from his eight rides at the track yesterday an air of disappointment might have come from three of his other rides finishing third. But Lee has been excellent this season, and rode a peach on Rosscarberry last week.
Lee's mount for Killarney's 19:10 is Cactus Tree, and he finished well to charge home from off the pace last time out over 7f at Fairyhouse.
He had a fair bit to do from the rear, and a return to 1m today is a good move for a horse who has dropped down to a nice mark considering he was racing in the mid-to-high 50s in the past.
That tells you all you need to know about the quality of the race, and not many rivals are in form. He gets a stone from the top weight and his draw on the inside in 1 makes things interesting if Lee decides to utilise different tactics from his usual hold-up plans.
Lee has been the top rider at one of the most scenic tracks on the circuit with its rolling hills at 4-15 and 27%, which is way in advance of his previous four year stats.
