Alan's second leg of his Sportsbook double runs tonight at Newcastle

Charlie Hills has been in good for the last month and Alan Dudman is playing a newcomer from that yard as part of a 14/1 multiple on Thursday ...

Hobbs can see in a winner in sight

Yesterday's Daily Racing Multiple column saw Berkshire Rocco held up off a steady pace and one it displayed one of the most maddening aspects of riding when a horse sits handy only to be taken back through the whole field. He finished off well down the outside as predicted as I do like runners wide at Kempton, but giving a 100-plus rated horse a 12L start is not the best tactic. It's the third horse this week held up who met some trouble, which doth butter no profits.

Trainer Philip Hobbs finally came off the cold list recently although with only 20 winners this season at a strike-rate of just 9%, it has been far from a fruitful campaign but as Cecile said in an Oscar Wilde play; I am not a fan of turning good people into bad at a moment notice.

Keable is the horse in the famous Ronnie Bartlett silks and he lines up in a very winnable 2m6f Maiden Hurdle.

The 6yo made a pleasing enough start over Ludlow's 2m5f last month on his hurdling debut but a couple of factors went against him. The steady pace certainly was a negative and the nature of Ludlow's tight turns and sharpness looked against him too. The winner had previous experience which he put to good use (Egbert) and the second was a high profile PTP winner.

Not a lot was expected that day with considering he was sent off 33/1, but I can see the long run at Ffos Las and more testing conditions playing more to his strengths as he is by Fame And Glory, and he's a half-brother to David Pipe's King's Palace - a horse who stayed 3m2f.

Shomen Uchi came out as a non-runner this morning and Snipe has become the de facto favourite at odds-on, but is only rated 113. This could be a case of the selection simply outstaying his rivals.

Impressive Hills stats over 7f at Newcastle

Back Tadjif @ 9/2 in the 18:10 at Newcastle

Charlie Hills hasn't had the same worries as Hobbs in terms of form and is 6-17 at 35% in the last four weeks and his newcomer Tadjif has got to be of interest at 9/2 at Newcastle.

He is by sire of sires Invincible Spirit - who holds an 11% win rate and 30% placed at Newcastle from all of his runners and his dam is related to Group 1 winner Muhaarar. His pedigree has got speed on the distaff side from Oasis Dream but there are two winners at 7f and 1m in his family.

The newcomer has an ideal draw in nine to get the rail stands' side and Rossa Ryan is an excellent booking as he has ridden some decent tactical races this week on the All-Weather - which hasn't always been the case with some of my selections.

The favourite Razoni has been beaten twice into second and has a poor speed figure next to his name and I'd rather take a chance on a bigger price for a newcomer.

9/2

Hills has a very healthy 24% win strike-rate over 7f at Newcastle, and a massive 56% placed.
