Alan Dudman returns with his Monday double and is using the each-way angle and Extra Place Special for Kilbeggan this evening...

A return to 3m the key for Fenton

Back Zaccarela 8.515/2 in the 18:00 at Kilbeggan

On the eve of Royal Ascot, Monday represents a task far from easy, and there is certainly no trainer for Carlisle today saying they have the fastest horse on the planet. Although I am pleased to see the colours of Janice McPherson with Monica; as those silks go way back with the great Perrystown View.

A maximum field size awaits at Kilbeggan for the first bet with 16 runners, so we could have a chance of finding a place with this being an Extra Place Special - although it won't be easy with such little worthwhile form.

However, blast-from-the-past trainer Philip Fenton's Zaccarela looks a big enough price at 15/2 with conditions to suit.

The disclaimer is he is 0-11, but then he is in the right race.

He finished third over CD last summer behind Denis Hogan's Royal Aide who had a bit more pace, but the good ground wasn't a problem considering he'd acted on heavy the season before, and he now manages to sneak into 0-95 company.

A pipe-opener at Punchestown last time out over an inadequate 2m4f was his first run for 296 days over a trip shorter than ideal, so he'll strip fitter for this, and he'll appreciate the return to 3m1f today allied with more positive tactics as he was given a lot to do at Punchestown. I'd be disappointed if he couldn't find five places and I'll be shouting "Fenton, Fenton" like Richmond Park man.

Remember All Those Years? Back the handicap debut tonight

It will be fascinating to see which way All Those Years for Charles Byrnes goes throughout the course of the day, as he was a drifter this morning from 7/2 to 9/2, but he's the most interesting despite his somewhat fragile profile.

He's been sighted as often as an eclipse but he's talented and I don't mind the drift either. With nine runners too; we have the three places and if Zaccerala wins, there is also the option of the cash out. Here's hoping.

All Those Years has won twice off the shelf, including his last victory 422 days ago in a Cork novice. so we shouldn't be too worried after another break and absence.

He beat Barry Connell's De Lady In Red in that, who is rated 122 and didn't fare too badly in a valuable mares' race last time before tipping up five out, but she was in touch.

The selection's win all those days ago came on heavy, but he did win a Galway bumper on debut in 2019 displaying a tidy turn of foot on decent ground with a hold up ride under Doc O'Connor.

A handicap debut mark of 125 looks fair, and he looks as if he will stay 2m4f too further down the line. Byrnes' last four runners have finished 123 and BD.
