Alan suffered yet another runner-up yesterday and there's all-weather action for our tipster today at Southwell...
Brian to go quicker than snail's pace on sand
18:10 Southwell - Back Brian The Snail @ BSP
When Toronado Queen had a challenger last night there was only going to be one outcome, with yet another selection in yesterday's column denied in a finish to once again place second. January truly was the month of seconditis. February has started out the same way.
Richard Fahey's Brian The Snail needs to get us off to a winning start on Tuesday, and he runs in a very classy 0-105 race on the sand.
Having lost his way, he has recently found a bit of consistency, which is good to see as he's always been a half decent horse. He's top rated here from 99, so he'll need to run to that figure.
His latest effort at Lingfield was behind course specialist Fizzy Feet who produced a personal best from the front, but the Snail came from further back. He has made the running before so that is an option.
Priced up at around 4.94/1, he has a chance.
Brittain can have a great winner
18:40 Southwell - Back Mondammej @ BSP
A fascinating contender goes at Southwell under the lights this evening with Antony Brittain sending out Mondammej.
He never made the track for Roger Varian, but cost plenty of money. New connections moved to land him for a bargain 4,000 and he's already displayed plenty of talent, as well as a bit of a temper.
Proper naughty as Danny Dyer might say.
A win on debut at Newcastle has been backed up by two good runs in the north east, but on each occasion he has been unruly, keen and loose. The hood was applied last time and is retained again, so hopefully he is learning to race.
This will be his first start at Southwell, and as a Lope De Vega, the sire's offspring have an 11% strike-rate here, and the horse's dam was a Fibresand winner too. Dropping back to 5f also seems very sensible given how keen he is.
