Grand Albert is overpriced at Market Rasen
Grand Albert was a beaten favourite on his rules debut at Bangor but the way that race panned out didn't suit him at all and I think he's capable of getting off the mark under rules on his hurdling debut this afternoon.
The very slow pace in the bumper at Bangor was always going to be against Grand Albert given the qualities he showed in his two starts in Irish points. He lacked the pace to take a gap in between rivals around two furlongs out and although he ran on well late on he couldn't quite catch Guard The Moon.
Prior to that, he got off the mark comfortably on his second start in Irish points when always in a handy position. He lifted the pace after jumping three out and only Poetry Man could go with him and that rival was dropped after two out as Grand Albert went further and further clear.
If Thatza Dazzler is able to be settled at the back of the field, I'm hoping they will look to change tactics with Grand Albert and make the running as he is likely to be a strong stayer at this trip. He might have a slight fitness edge over a couple of his main rivals.
It might be that he lacks a little of the class of a couple of his rivals but the circumstances of this race could favour Grand Albert and any 3/14.00 or bigger appeals.
