Pick your own each-way terms at the US Masters

Golf has undoubtedly become one of the most popular sports for each-way wagering, and none more so than when it comes to a major tournament.
There's possibly nothing more frustrating than having a win bet on a golfer who comfortably finishes in the places, but loses the tournament due to a bit of bad luck - or brilliance from someone else - down the last few holes.
And there's no fun to be had by backing a golfer to win, only to see him sit second behind a player who is eight shots clear. You know your bet is going to be a loser, and it's at this point that you kick yourself for not placing an each-way bet.
At this week's first major of the season, the US Masters, there's no reason not to back your selection each-way because Betfair are giving you the option of backing it in the 8,10 or 12 Places markets.
Enhance your chances by picking more places
The 8 Places market on the Betfair Sportsbook offers the best odds. This is because Betfair will be paying out on fewer players than the 10 and 12 Place markets for each-way bets.
But the more places you go for it stands to reason that the golfer you back will have slightly lower odds. This is because Betfair will be paying out on more players in the 10 Places and 12 Places markets to settle each-way bets.
Take Jordan Spieth for example, who happens to be my first pick this week. You can back him at 14/115.00 each-way to win the US Masters in the Winner market, which offers 12 places for each-way bets.
But if you fancy Spieth strongly, and believe he'll comfortably finish in the top 10, then you can choose to back him at the better price of 16/117.00 in the 10 Places market, or even bigger, at 18/119.00 in the 8 Places market.
So the choice is yours, take a punt on a massive outsider to finish inside the top 12, or back someone more reliable to finish in the top eight. By using Betfair's 'pick your places' markets you're in control of how many players get paid out on.
The 30-year-old Texan took to Augusta like the proverbial duck to water when finishing runner-up in the 2014 US Masters, before cruising to victory 12 months later. He would have triumphed again in 2016 but for his now infamous back-nine Sunday collapse, and in recent years he's finished third and fourth despite not arriving in the best of form.
Six finishes inside the top four then, with just one missed cut from 10 attempts, is good enough reason to back him each-way in the 8 Places market at 18/119.00, but after Spieth performed well to finish top 10 at last week's Texas Open there's even more reason to believe his juices will be flowing as well as in any previous year when he drives down Magnolia Lane.
Few players finished 2023 in better form than Min Wee Lee as he recorded two worldwide wins and a third place finish at his native Australian Open, igniting hopes that he could break into the world's top 10 this year. That hasn't quite materialised following an up and down start to 2024 which has seen him wrap some lowly finishes around an excellent second at the Cognizant Classic at the beginning of last month.
The 25-year-old has played Augusta on just two occasions, recording an excellent T14 on debut two years ago before missing the cut 12 months later. However, he bounced back from that missed cut with three cuts made in the remaining 2023 majors which included an excellent top five finish at the US Open.
Consistency appears to be his biggest problem currently, but if he's on the top of his game he'll give you a great run for your money in the 10 Places market at 50/151.00.
In the 12 Places market I'm happy to take a punt on Georgia resident Chris Kirk at 100/1101.00. The six-time PGA Tour winner has played in the US Masters four times resulting in form figures of 20-33-MC-23, which compares really well against some of the players priced at similar odds, and especially so given that his 23rd place finish was 12 months ago.
He's already a winner this season after shooting an extremely impressive 29 under par total at The Sentry in January, and he's performed consistently well since, making six of seven cuts on the PGA Tour.
Kirk ranks 10th for Scoring Average this season (prior to the Texas Open) and 20th for Scrambling, and if he can marry those two stats with a good putting week he has a great chance of contending at huge odds.
