Trent Rockets team news

Rockets are the champs but they have suffered an early blow, losing the injured Rashid Khan for the season. Rashid barely played last season. Imad Wasim replaces him for the first three games and then Ish Sodhi takes over.

The strength in depth in the squad is good. Potential England pacer Sam Cook, for example, is in a threeway fight for a pace slot with Bard Wheal and Luke Wood. Batter Tom Kohler-Cadmore might not get in. The front six with the bat is very good with Daniel Sams a game-changer.

Possible XI: Hales, Malan, Munro, Hain, Gregory, Sams, Imad, Moores, Patel, Cook/Wheal, L Wood

Southern Brave team news

Southern Brave could find they have an advantage by not having to negotiate the physical and mental form and fitness of a post-Ashes player. But they do appear to be a batter light.

Leus du Plooy and Tim David are excellent but we wonder whether they're too reliant on James Vince. Devon Conway needs a fast start after being becalmed in the MLC. We don't expect Jofra Archer to make an appearance so Matt Fisher is the tyro pacer.

Possible XI: Conway, Allen, Vince, du Plooy, David, C Overton, Ahmed, Garton, Jordan, Mills, Fisher

Trent Rockets v Southern Brave pitch report

There have been three scores over 145 in eight at Trent Bridge in the two campaigns. Five have been won by the side batting first. However, the surface was markedly different from one year to the next in 2023. In the Blast it looked a good track for batting with five out of seven busting 165. It could be that this time batters have the advantage. A watchful eye may be needed on the par line.

Trent Rockets v Southern Brave match odds

Rockets are 1.728/11 with Brave 2.3611/8. Those odds look about fair considering the respective performances last term. Brave managed only a seventh-placed finish.

It has to be said that they could struggle again. This time they might not have the two gimmes against Welsh Fire, who should improve.

The issue could be with the ball for them. They have a potentially pricey line-up on the historical data and that's not a great look against that Rockets batting. Check out the team-by-team guide here.

Trent Rockets v Southern Brave player bets

Daniel Sams had a terrific MLC campaign and he could jet in for more carnage. He catches the eye at 13/114.00 and 4/15.00 respectively for top bat and bowler for Rockets. Dawid Malan, tournament top-bat last term, is boosted to 16/54.20. For Brave, du Ploooy maybe underrated at 11/26.50. We see him being given the lynchpin role.

With the ball, Cook is a danger man. He had the best strike rate of any Rockets bowler last term from his six matches. He is 10/34.33.
