Birmingham Phoenix v Southern Brave team news

Phoenix have been atrocious, winning just once. It's hard to fathom. A batting line-up of Will Smeed, Ben Duckett, Liam Livingstone and Moeen Ali has suffered a catastrophic and collective loss of form. The bowling economy is actually the second-best in the tournament, although teams haven't been required to be quick.

Tanveer Sangha could be available if Ashton Turner's apparent delayed departure for Australia duty from Originals is anything to go by. Tom Helm may come in if not.

Probable XI: Smeed, Duckett, Smith, Livingstone, Moeen, Benjamin, Howell, Woakes, Milne, Sangha

Spirit had a decent run at the play-offs but fell just short. Nathan Ellis has departed to be replaced by Tim Southee.

Not that he leaves a huge hole. They have the second-worst economy in the tournament. We don't expect Southee to remedy that all on his own.

Probable XI: Crawley, Rossington, Wade, Mitchell, Bopara, Critchley, Dawson, Thompson, Southee, Worrall

Birmingham Phoenix v Southern Brave pitch report

In ten games at Edgbaston, seven first-innings have busted 145 or more. Six of those were 150-plus. Phoenix managed 160 against Oval in their solitary win. They have otherwise been awful. In their other four innings they've not made more than 119.

We'd like to take on the Spirit bowlers on a flat pitch if Phoenix bat first. But given we have only two trends out of three for an overs on the par line caution is advised.

Birmingham Phoenix v Southern Brave match odds

This is a dead rubber so motivation for both teams is minimal. Phoenix, however, might be considered value at 2.0811/10 despite their woes.

If they get the chance to bat first as we've said, they have that ability to produce something special, as they did against Oval who are the best team in the competition.

A trade to flip the odds, then, with the toss in their favour could be the way to go. But don't wager on Phoenix on both sides of the market, ie the par line and match odds.

Birmingham Phoenix v Southern Brave player bets

There are some big top-bat prices which stand out with Sportsbook. Is Chris Woakes a 90/191.00 chance for the hosts? Is Jordan Thompson a 100/1101.00 pick? Both have way more ability than that and the latter has the potential to bat as high as No 7.
