Lahore Qalandars v Hyderabad Kingsmen PSL Tips

Lahore Qalandars are the outright selection for back-to-back titles. This should be a relatively comfortable opener for them against a Hyderabad franchise which could struggle to make an impact in their debut season.

Consistency in selection and squad retention could well be crucial in a PSL season which threatens to be chaotic off the field. A raft of players have reneged on agreements to play before a ball has been bowled.

Lahore have managed to retain key Pakistan players and moved quickly to bring in Dunith Wellalage as a like-for-like replacement for Gudakesh Motie. Rubin Hermann and Daniel Sams may not arrive in time for the first game.

Hyderabad will rely heavily on a front three of Saim Ayub, Maaz Sadaqat and Usman Khan. Usman is a smart pick up from the old Sultans franchise. Less impressive is relying on Marnus Labuschagne. Glenn Maxwell will play no part with Maheesh Theekshana coming instead. It's not exactly a like-for-like swap and it could leave them shy of middle-order power.

All matches will be played at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium and Karachi. This contest is at the former. From all night matches played at the venue there is a toss bias for the team batting first at 54%. However, a filter in the last three years flips the bias to the chaser at 60%. The runs per over in the latter study sample comes in at 9.03 and it is reasonable to expect runs early on in the competition.

The last four PSL matches saw 190 or more busted in the first-innings. We wait to see the par line on the Exchange but would be happy to playing overs in the 180s.

In terms of players to follow, Usman is underrated for top Hyderbad bat at 13/27.50. We expect him to bat no lower than No 4. And as identified in our team-by-team guide he is their top-rated player on the market. Likewise Muhammad Ali with the ball for top Hyderabad bowler at 10/34.33. There's really not much for him to beat in the market, which says something about Hyderabad's title aspirations.

Quetta Gladiators v Karachi Kings PSL Tips

Both these two have significant title chances. Quetta topped the ladder last season while Karachi were something of a surprise package thanks to David Warner's astute leadership.

Quetta have lost the services of Spencer Johnson to the IPL. Alzarri Joseph has signed as his replacement. Sam Harper, the Aussie batter, has decided not to take part. Bevon Jacobs' arrival may be delayed following New Zealand's 3-2 T20 series defeat by South Africa.

For Karachi Reeza Hendricks is a decent upgrade on Johnson Charles and should open the batting alongside David Warner once he arrives at the end of the month Muhammad Waseem, the UAE opener, is another option. There have been some reports that Adam Zampa has pulled out for Kings but we await confirmation. It would be a hammer blow if true.

The early match odds show has this lined up as a choice affair. We suspect Quetta are superior as we are enamoured by the spin pairing of Abrar Ahmed and Usman Tariq. Indeed, Abrar is a go-to option for top bowler, returning at a rate of 36%. Sportsbook prices for the market and not available yet but we expect to be able to play at around the 10/34.33 mark.

Batting first could well be key on a potentially flat track at the Gaddafi Stadium as stated above. We don't expect a shift on match odds for the side batting first but if it is Quetta they could well be trading sub 1.654/6 by the break. Again, look out for those par lines on the exchange as big runs really should be in the offing.
