India v West Indies second T20 team news

India have a 1-0 lead and they barely broke sweat in achieving it. On what looked like a flat wicket, any danger looked to be averted when they reduced West indies to 44 for three. The Windies did well to post 171 but India chased with more than five overs to spare.

We don't expect any changes to the XI save for the possibility that Sanju Samson steps out for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. Samson is in a four-game funk since consecutive 50s against Afghanistan and he has failed in seven of his last 10.

Only five bowlers were used in game one. But Shivam Dube, Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma standby if required. It's a spin-heavy attack with 12 overs of tweak bowled. Naman Dhir claimed three wickets as the pick of the bowlers.

Possible XI: Abhishek, Samson, Ishan, Shreyas, Tilak, Dube, Naman, Axar, Arshdeep, Kuldeep, Mayank

West Indies know from the ODI series that the batters have to go big if they are to put India under pressure and they were below par in the first match. It's hard not to be disappointed with their batting selection.

Amir Jangoo, who was good in the ODI series, missed out to Kamil Pooran in the opening slot. The Windies would be a more tempting bet if these two switched.

The Windies also deployed three spin bowlers but one of them was not Gudakesh Motie. He might be preferred to Shamar Springer.

At some stage Windies may need to take a risk with their balance and add more batting firepower. Quentin Sampson comes to mind. Springer, as the sixth bowling option, could be vulnerable and they may just have to gamble on five.

Possible XI: Hope, Pooran/Jangoo, Hetmyer, Powell, Rutherford, Chase, Shepherd, Akeal, Forde, Springer, Shamar

India v West Indies second T20 pitch report

The default position with white-ball in India these days when it comes to a pitch report is: road. And there's usually a chunk of evidence to back it up. Not in Ranchi, though. That has much to do with two games a day in the Syed Mushtaq in 2023.

The runs per over rate of 8.37 could be considered to have held up pretty well considering the traffic through the wicket. The last T20i in 2023 saw New Zealand defend 176 against India.

Betfair Sportsbook have a total first-innings runs mark of 191.5. Obviously if India were batting first that would jump by 15-20. The run rate in game one suggested India have 220-230 well within their scope.

India v West Indies second T20 match prediction

The best chance for West Indies may have gone. There was a whopping toss bias in Lucknow but it went against them and they were well beaten by eight wickets. There is no toss bias in Ranchi.

As stated previously, the outsider really does need a leveller in terms of pitch, conditions or a toss bias to be considered. Even for the trade. At a starting point of 4.804/1 West Indies could just get bigger and bigger if they batted second here.

The have to bat first, then, and put down in advance of 200. A chunk could come off that price. The reality, though, is you're looking at close to an even-money trade. But Windies are not even money to bust 200.

India v West Indies second T20 player tips

Shimron Hetmyer is the man to follow for West Indies top bat. Hetmyer has a 35% win rate on this market in the last two years and we should make our peace now that we back him until he delivers. Betfair Sportsbook's4/15.00 gives us a big edge.

For India, Abhishek (25%) and Ishan Kishan 930%) are players with strong win rates who could also be worth following for the rest of the series. They are 3/14.00 and 7/24.50 respectively. Alternatively, the less stressful options are the 11/102.11 each that both score 30 or more.

With the ball, Roston Chase is an interesting option for top bowler for Windies. He dead-heated in game one and it is noticeable how he has picked up single-wicket returns in mismatches. Which this could be. His return rate on the market is busting 26%. So there are far worse 9/25.50 chances. If Chase was to share the same number of wickets, the market would be settled on fewest number of runs conceded.
