Peshawar Zalmi topped the league, have won nine of the their ten matches and rate statistically the most efficient unit with bat and ball. So why is there likely to be tension for the final showdown? The last hurdle to clear?
Well, they face a Hyderbad Kingsmen side who seem to have tapped into some sort of etheral cosmic energy . Call it magic, call it momentum. They can do no wrong. And it is hard to understand how they are doing so much right. Everything has just clicked.
The Kingsmen lost their first four and were hopeless. They have now won seven from eight. Marnus Labuschagne personifies that transformation. He looked a a very odd choice to lead the team at the start. But he has inspired a dispirit team. His shrewd, happy leadership style should be noted at home and in leagues around the world.
Note the difference in the two captains' comments pre match. Here's Zalmi's Babar Azam: "We have to make sure that we execute our plans and don't let the pressure get the better of us. We have to bring our A game and cannot be complacent."
And Labuschagne: "For us, it is about controlling ourselves and making sure we stick to our plans and the rest will take care of itself. It is going to be a great occasion. Hyderabad has certainly lit this tournament up."
Only one man is talking about pressure. That's because there is none for Kingsmen. That can be enough to rate them as value on the match odds on the Exchange at 2.245/4.
The Lahore surface is the same one used for the double header on April 22. Zalmi chased Karachi 182 and Sultans failed to defend 213 against Kingsmen. It is hard to justify unders plays or a bowler-dominated final. The cheaper line, therefore, on total match runs overs 173.5 for Hyderabad at 5/61.84 with Sportsbook may be an option.
Players to follow include Nahid Rana at 7/24.50 for top Zalmi bowler. The Bangladesh pacer has been released and allowed to return to lead the attack following an impressive season. For Kingsmen, Hunain Shah's death work has got them to this final and is the right jolly at 11/43.75.
If you want to be on Zalmi, surely they only win with a Babar special. Therefore the win, top-bat and man of the match markets are all related. Pakistan's darling, on his own ground, will surely only need a score for the 13/27.50 to cop.
