Mumbai Indians v Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL team news

Mumbai Indians have used 20 players already this season. It is no surprise that they are engaged in a battle to avoid last spot instead of winning top spot. The rot has well and truly set in with confused selection and player roles.

More churn is expected after their fourth-straight loss. But it is understandable. Rohit Sharma is expected to come back after a hamstring injury, meaning he will open the batting with Quinton de Kock.

It may be that MI finally decide to stick instead of twisting from now on. Consistency would benefit everyone. There can then be focus on making sure the big-name players take responsibility. There's nowt that can be done, though, about Hardik Pandya's poor captaincy.

Possible XI: De Kock, Rohit (sub Ghazanfar), Dhir, Sky, Tilak, Hardik, Rutherford, Thakur, Bhagat, Ashwani, Bumrah

Sunrisers are the surprise package and are well-placed for a top-four finish with four consecutive wins. They have received a major boost with Pat Cummins back.

Cummins immediately took the captaincy back off Ishan Kishan and inspired them to chase down 229 with nine balls to spare against Rajasthan. Cummins coming back means Liam Livingstone is likely to be surplus to requirements for the rest of the season.

Possible XI: Abhishek, Head (sub Sakib Hussain), Ishan, Reddy, Klaasen, Arora, Verma, Cummins, Shivang, Malinga, Hinge

Mumbai Indians v Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL pitch report

The Wankhede has hosted 19 night matches in the last three years in IPL with a run rate of 9.61. That's split by 9.52 in the first- and 9/7 in the second-innings. Not surprisingly, 11 of the matches have been won by the chaser.

Chennai hit 207 in an easy win over MI last time. The hosts could muster only 104. That could say more about the Mumbai batting than the pitch but there is a suspicion that, at some stage, we start to see the impact of heavy scheduling on a surface which was used in the World Cup, too.

There could be cheap lays at extreme low totals on the Betfair Exchange first-innings runs with unders 140-160 particularly ballsy options.

Mumbai Indians v Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL match prediction

Mumbai Indians are proving to be a cash cow this IPL - as long as you are opposing! Getting against them in each of their games when they have gone off favourites is the only strategy one needs.

We were on for Chennai to beat them last time at odds-against and the market is slow to recognise that. Despite all the talent in the world, this is a squad which is just not interested in poutting down the hard yards to win matches.

Sunrisers are an obvious bet at 2.021/1 on the Betfair Exchange. Given the formbook they should be clear favourites. We don't expect them to go on to win the tournament but they are at least showing some nous finally. There has been much criticism of their one-dimensional approach but if Cummins can be mean from one end that will add to a bowling unti which has performed better than expected.

Mumbai are still being priced on reputation rather than record. there's no excuse for persistent underperforming but this looks like ly to be the sixth straight year they've not made it to the final, which is criminal.

Mumbai Indians v Sunrisers Hyderabad IPL player tips

Travis Head is a fancy for top Sunrisers bat at 7/24.50. there are no signs of a chronic lack of form and players of his quality don't go for long without a big one. But we do need to point out value if you disagree. Head is likely to be subbed out when Sunrisers field, meaning you are effectively shorting his runs at 27.5 on the performance market 91pt per run, 10 per catch, 20 per wicket) instead of 25.5.
