Lucknow Super Giants v Gujarat Titans team news
Pace sensation Maynak Yadav lines up aiming to turn the game in LSG's favour decisively for the third in a row. But he is helping to paper over some fissures. Dev Padikkal's form at No 3 is a problem and they have a batting struggle in their locker.
Probable XI: De Kock, Rahul, Padikkal/Siddharth (subs), Pooran, Stoinis, Brunal, Badoni, Y Thakur, Bishnoi Mayank, Naveen
Gujarat lost horribly to Punjab last time out with selection entirely to blame. Using Kane Williamson in an era when batting power has never been more important is madness. Anchor batters are the short route to failure now. They desperately need David Miller fit.
Possible XI: Gill, Saha, Williamson, Sai/Mohit (subs), Shankar, Omarzai, Tewatia, Rashid, Noor, Umesh, Nalkande
Lucknow Super Giants v Gujarat Titans pitch report
The Lucknow surface has been tacky and four times in eight IPL matches (and one T20i) before this season there have been first-innings scores under 140. In the first game this term LSG posted 199 to beat Punjab. But we'll watch with caution as the first game last season recorded 193. There has been talk of a re-laid surface. Under 175.5 is a tempting wager though.
Lucknow Super Giants v Gujarat Titans match odds
Lucknow are 1.9310/11 favourites and that is a bet for us but with a significant caveat. Williamson has to be included in the Gujarat line-up.
His selection suggests Gujarat are inattentive to the themes and trends of the format. It could be that he produces another innings which costs Gujarat the game as he did against Punjab.
Mayank's reputation and record may not be lost on Gujarat. A straightforward back to lay could be profitable when he comes on to bowl.
Gujarat could well try to see him off and LSG may get four cheap and wicket-full overs in another game changer.
Rahul is 23/103.30 for top LSG bat. He has yet to win and with a win rate of 29% is overdue. However, there's no edge on win rate so we have to wait for him to be boosted. Instead Krunal Pandya is big at 22/123.00 given he could bat as high as No 6. For Gujarat, Azmatullah Omarzai looks underrated on ability at 15/28.50.
