Delhi broke their losing streak in home games on Thursday, but can they extend that against a Bangalore side who thrashed IPL leaders Rajasthan in their last game? Richard O'Hagan looks forward to a fascinating contest...
"Duminy was always a very good T20 player but the responsibility of captaining this side seems to have added an extra dimension to his batting. He’s currently the fifth highest scorer in the tournament and he should continue that form into this game"
Delhi Daredevils v Royal Challengers Bangalore
Live on Sky Sports 2
After nine consecutive defeats Delhi finally won a home game on Thursday, with an impressive victory over Mumbai. Powerful batting from captain JP Duminy and particularly from Shreyas Iyer combined with another decent bowling spell from Imran Tahir and some tigerish fielding to break the Kotla hoodoo which had already ruined their 2014 campaign.
The challenge is to now turn that into a winning streak at the venue and the challenge will be to avoid an upset against the strongest and yet most disappointing team in the IPL to date. They have a slight injury worry over Domnic Muthuswami, who only managed two overs against Mumbai, whist the time has surely come to relegate Yuvraj Singh to the reserves after yet another below-par showing in that game.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Bangalore at last put in a fighting performance against Rajasthan on Friday, restricting their hosts to 130-9 on a good batting track thanks to a fine display of quality fast bowling from Mitchell Starc and then obliterating their bowling attack thanks the big money triumvirate of Gayle, Kohli and de Villiers.
Unfortunately, though, that combined with an injury to Yuzvendra Chahal, the legspinner who has been one of their better bowlers this season and who is now a doubt for this game. That may turn out to be significant as it was the spin attack which really ruined Rajasthan's day and which they would be hoping would do the same in this game.
Venue and Conditions
Before getting too carried away by Thursday's win, it is important to remember that Delhi have lost their other two games at the Feroz Shah Kotla this season and that it takes a pretty poor batting performance to make under 180 here. Given that batting strength of Bangalore, this could well be a high scoring game indeed.
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Delhi are not particularly favoured in the betting for this game, being 2.568/5 to Bangalore's 1.625/8. At that price they are worth a bet if they bat first but not if they have to try and chase down a Bangalore total.
Top Delhi Batsman
Duminy was always a very good T20 player but the responsibility of captaining this side seems to have added an extra dimension to his batting. He's currently the fifth highest scorer in the tournament and he should continue that form into this game. Back him at any price over 4.216/5.
Top Bangalore Batsman
Picking a top batsman from the impressive Bangalore stable is a tough job, but for some reason AB de Villiers has been the man who tends to start out at the longest price of all of their stars at the top of the order. He does tend to save his best innings for when the team are in trouble, but at any price over 4.1 he's good value even if they aren't.
