Delhi Capitals v Gujarat Titans IPL team news
Delhi Capitals are the early surprise package with two wins from two. They have handed defeats to Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians. Those are good value successes with both LSG and MI far from the weakest sides in the league.
The loss of Mitchell Starc, or rather his delayed arrival, has not not impacted Delhi. Lungi Ngidi has filled in seamlessly with four wickets in two games. They have also been bolstered by sensational hitting from an unlikely sources; former CSK youngster Sameer Rizvi. Rizvi's form heas meant that Axar Patel has moved back down to the lower order.
Possible XI: Rahul, Nissanka, Rana, Rizvi (Mukesh sub), Miller, Stubbs, Axar, Vipraj, Kuldeep, Ngidi, Natarajan
Gujarat Titans have lost two from two. They will be wondering quite how they let slip a strong position (twice) against Rajasthan Royals to surrender the points last time ouy.
Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler were bossing a chase of 211 at 107 for one in the 11th. But a collapse hiurt them. Even so Rashid Khan and Kagiso Rabada got them back on track before they became strokeless at the death.
Shubman Gill is a doubt with back spasms. If he is to miss out again it would make sense to unleash Buttler as opener. Kumar Kushagra is unproven in the opening slot.
Possible XI: Sai, Kushagar/Gill, Buttler, Phillips, Sundar, Tewatia, Shahrukh (prasidh), Rashid, Rabada, Ashok, Siraj
Delhi Capitals v Gujarat Titans IPL pitch report
The Arun Jaitley Stadium surface looked a little tricky as MI were restricted to 162 in the one match so far. The stats suggest it was an outlier in night matches. In the last three years there have been 16 played with an average run rate of 9.73. Nine games have been won by the side batting first.
The DC-MI game was -a day game and that could have had an impact. In the last 16 night matches more than 190 has been busted nine times and both teams to score 190 has won six times.
Therefore the lower total match runs line with Gujarat at 179.5 at 5/61.84 may make sense. Likewise the 2/13.00 about both teams hitting 190.
Back both teams to score 190
Delhi are 1.9420/21 favourites and given the start both teams have had, that may be considered generous. The key could well be confirmation on Gill's absence as it significantly weakens the Titans who have batting concerns.
It also piles the pressure on Sai Sudharsan. Sai is a phenom in terms of consistency but even he can't keep going at the rate he is. Delhi's aim will be to take wickets in the powerplay and attack that soft GT middle- to lower-order. The Sundar-Tewatia-Shahrukh axis is concerning.
Batting first should be the way to go with those historic RPO and the hint of a toss bias. So with no Gill for GT and the home team given the opportunity to post a total, they would rate the value.
KL Rahul is in the win zone as one of the most reliable IPL top-bats ever. He should win at some stage so getting involved now at 15/82.88 might make sense. Another Sai tops win for GT is rated at 5/23.50. That is value considering his hit rate and the fact that Gill is listed as favourite. It would be a surprise if Gill played. He has had this sort of spasm before and GT would be foolish to rush him back.
