Guyana have only played four matches but the inconsistent nature of the tournament means they have retained second position with a 100% record. We suspect they are the best side in the tournament. But there is caution to that as Barbados Tridents won their first two and now find themselves bottom.

A win for Guayana would guarantee a play-off spot. Likewise Jamaica, who have reversed their fortunes after losing their first three. They have won four from five. Their most impressive win came last time out when they won a rain-affected contest against Trinbago. They were seven runs ahead on DLS after conceding 180.

This will be a tough test for Jamaica, though. The tournament now moves to Guyana's home ground, Providence. Guyana are dominant there, winning 67% of their matches at the venue.

Providence is not expected to be one for the batters. The average runs per over in the last three years in CPL is eight and it is generally an unders play. In that study sample of 30 matches, 15 have seen the first-innings mark come under 165.5. That might be a surprisingly high number for overs given the reputation. It could be argued that the wicket has improved.

Last season it looked a typical providence wicket when Guyana were stunned, bowled out for 99 against Falcons. But first-innings scores followed: 185, 189, 166, 154, 195, 130. It could be that Betfair Sportsbook's total runs quote for Guyana is a little low at 164.5.

In terms of players to follow, five of the 10 top wicket-takers in CPL are spinners. Top of that list is Imran Tahir so the 7/24.50 that he wins the top bowler market for the hosts will have appeal. The pacers are likely to take a back seat here. Shai Hope is coming back towards the win zone for top bats and the 11/43.75 he cops on top batsman is not the worst idea.

Trinbago have to win if they are to have any chance of progressing. They sit second-bottom with just two wins in eight. With two to play they should really be out of contention completely. But because Guyana and Barbados have played so little it would be possible for the likes of Jamaica, St Lucia and Patriots to lose their remaining games (all against Guyana and Tridents) and for Trinbago to sneak in. It is extremely unlikely, though, and Trinbago probably know the defence of their crown is over.

The balance of their XI has not been right from ball one. They are overloaded with opening batters and left-handed batsmen, meaning they have suffered against bowlers spinning it past the eyeline of the southpaws.

The one positive is the return of Justin Greaves. But the decision to bat him in the middle order has merely added to the confusion. With Chris Green, Mujeeb ur Rahman and Gudakesh Motie in their ranks, Tridents could be set up perfectly to attack Trinbago back on their home turf in Bridgetown.
