Robin Keck's Stable Form: Sshh... The new horse theory

"I’m bringing Kim Bailey back on to the hot list as I’ve always had a soft spot for trainers who, like me, struggle through life with a girl’s name. "

After a quiet but profitable week for his column, Robin Keck has given himself a squeak of reaching his £1,000 target by New Year's day. So what does the next seven days hold in store and who's hot and who's not?

Sarah Humphrey had another winner in 'Ya I know' at Market Rasen on Sunday and despite only having a tiny string she's accumulating the winners week by week. This one looks a tricky ride and had all the equipment on but I'm confident he could run up a little sequence at a lowly level as he idled in front and the handicapper is going to struggle to accurately assess how much he's saving for himself.

Sarah's Toby Jug only just got outpointed by the classy Pettitfour at Cheltenham on Saturday which may be a blessing in disguise as I'd like her name kept out of the mainstream press for as long as possible to help preserve some value for her followers. Both of these horses had been recently transferred from other yards and I'm a great believer in the 'new horse' theory when a handicapper wins in this situation.

Ironically 'Ya I know' came from Kim Bailey who is having his own mini-revival after I prematurely dropped him from my hot list a couple of weeks ago. Seven of his last 12 entries have been placed first or second and there is value in taking a relatively blind approach in my personal punting of his runners as the market seems fairly clueless regarding which one's will and won't produce their best. I'm bringing him back on to the hot list as, regardless of his stable's good form, I've always had a soft spot for trainers who share, like me, struggle through life with a girl's name.

Lee Smyth only had one winner from eight runners but the BSP of [15.16] on Coolnahara was easily enough to keep him on my hot list.

James Hetherton hit the bar twice but remains one to keep on side, although my promotion of Charlie Longsdon didn't pay off and he's cut.

I opposed Philip Hobbs last week which, on balance, has paid dividends but my day to day punting against his runners has been quite hit and miss. Some of his runners are in good form and I don't yet see any theme emerging that will help focus my strategy with his stable. I'd be grateful for any insight if anyone has identified a pattern but for now he remains on the cold list.

No mysterious encounters with top jockeys or celebrities this week. I'll try and rectify that but my home village of 'Ugley' doesn't quite have the same vibe as Beverley Hills. Good luck everyone and as Churchill used to say "keep buggering on".
