Saturday at the Cheltenham Open meetng always features a very good quality card. This year is no exception, says Carl Harris.
"Bible Lord is over-priced at [32.0] in the 14:35 and makes for a very attractive each-way proposition."
Huge crowds will cheer on their fancies today but sadly I will not be amongst them, confined to my sick bed, although I feel absolutely fine. I reckon a few extra quid will be just what the Doctor ordered! Mind you, being proved right about French Opera was highly satisfying.
The card is choc-full of quality, interesting angles. All bets today will be at Cheltenham;
Tony McCoy and Evan Williams have formed a winning alliance with Barizan (13:55), the young hurdler having won five of his six races since being acquired from John Oxx. Although this is his biggest test to date it is one he should be up to it. One of the best bets on the card in my view.
Miko De Beauchene (13:55) makes his first start for Venitia Williams having been a fixture of the Alner stable in recent seasons. This is a competitive handicap chase, won last year by Joe Lively, which should provide punters with plenty of excitement. I am not suggesting that Venitia Williams is any better a trainer than Robert Alner but it is quite often the case that a change of scenery has a positive effect on a horse. There is the ability there and in my view worth taking a chance with.
My each-way bet for the paddy Power Gold Cup is a big price in the shape of Bible Lord (14:35) trained by Andrew Turnell, who won the Bet365 chase at Wetherby a couple of weeks ago and reappears here off the same mark of 136. I think he is over-priced at [32.0] - a very attractive each-way proposition. Our advice is to back him win and place.
Andytown (15:10) is a solid bet, representing Tony McCoy and Nicky Henderson. Last seen at Aintree when running disappointingly after such a great day at Cheltenham after winning the Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle. He will not be the first and certainly not the last to run flat at Aintree after Cheltenham. It is not terminal and I expect him to bounce back here off the same mark as he ran from in Liverpool.
Carl Harris' Saturday Cheltenham tips:
12:50 Barizan, Win @ [2.0]
13:55 Miko De Beauchene, Win @ [11.0]
15:10 Andytown, Win @ [7.2]
Value Bet
14:35 Bible Lord, win and Place @ [36.0] and [6.2]
