Dettori makes a rare visit to Southwell, Carl Harris is taking the hint

October really couldn't be any worse, my worst month since I started keeping records.

Everytime I have had a lean spell though I have come back with a strong run, so I am waiting for the tide to change. Much of it is down to the poor quality racing in my view and it's not looking much better on Wednesday. That said Frankie Dettori makes a rare visit to Southwell and has some live chances. I think the great man's mood will be worse than mine if he returns to Newmarket without a good set of results.

Burgundy Ice (14:10) was a very good winner last week at Kempton and reappears quickly, under a penalty, suggesting that connections think they are ahead of the handicapper. Frankie Dettori rides for Godolphin and can kick off the day with a winner, overcoming stall 11 of 14. Southwell is a track for the front runner and there is no better man than Frankie from the front.

Dettori rides in what I can only describe as a shocking maiden, where his mount Bennelong (16:10) should win. Although there are nine runners it should boil down to a match between Ask The Oracle and Bennelong and it should be Dettori who returns to the winners enclosure, riding for Ralph Beckett. Bennelong is no world beater, but as they say, in the kingdom of the blind the one eyed man is king.

Let's hope for a good day for Frankie and all his backers.
