It's Saturday again, mid October, where has 2009 gone? The flat season has been fantastic and it's not over yet! Today there are quality cards at Ascot and York, the Ascot of the North!

National hunt racing steps up with meetings at Chepstow, Bangor and Hexham. I was excited to hear that Master Minded could take on Voy Por Ustedes next month at Cheltenham. I am really looking forward to the jumps season but for today I will stick to the flat. I am looking at a couple of decent prices at Ascot.

I am sure that if Tamagin (2.55) was from one of the bigger yards that he would be a smaller price. Therefore I think we are getting some value in this group three sprint. Last time out Jeff Pearce's six year-old ran an excellent race to finish second in group two Diadem Stakes over course and distance. Prior to that he won a listed race at Goodwood, which was a decent contest. I think he has an excellent chance and should be backed in both win and place markets, with 20 runners we are getting first four places.

Class is Class (3.30) lines up in the big betting handicap of the day at Ascot on Saturday. Stepping up in trip he shaped as if an extra two furlongs would be ideal, when running fourth at Newbury last time out. The Sir Michael Stoute Monjeu colt will be popular but looks well weighted and could be a bit above this level over a longer trip. Again with 19 runners it is worth backing him each way with first four places paying out.

My best bet of the day is Azizi (4.40) at Ascot who I think is by far the best horse in the group three Autumn Stakes at Ascot. He steps up to pattern company after being very impressive in handicaps but on my humble ratings he is well ahead and a reproduction of his last run should see him home.
