Star turn at HQ and sensational comeback in 135th Kentucky derby stuns punters...
Punters on both sides of the Atlantic were toasting shock results as [300.00] and [180.00] outsiders landed big races at Newmarket and Churchill Downs respectively.
In the 1000 Guineas, Richard Hills rode Ghanatti to victory by one-and-a-half lengths from a starting price of [22.36]. Ghanatti had traded at a pre-race high of [38.0] and touched [300.00] in the ante-post market while pre-race favourite Rainbow View was matched as low as [1.6] in-running.
Ghanatti's surprise triumph came only 24 hours after a strong finish saw Sea the Stars, who was backed in the ante-post market at a high of [200.00], win the 2000 Guineas.
The John Oxx-trained runner looks to have a bright future ahead of him and is now [5.1] favourite for the Epsom Derby which takes places on June 6.
Pre-race favourite Delegator traded at [1.3] in-running.
Meanwhile, Churchill Downs witnessed one of the biggest shocks in US racing history as a gelding who cost just $9,500 at auction stormed to a sensational victory.
Mine That Bird, who traded at [140.00] as the gates opened, was well off the field approaching the final bend before he put in a prolonged burst of speed that carried him more than six lengths clear at the line.
