Summer Jumpers To Follow: A spate of winners?

Rory Delargy digs out another three to follow (or avoid) over the sticks in this week's instalment.

"We get an early chance to see how well treated Dreamwalk is when he runs in the third race at Newton Abbot on Monday. He needs to improve on the figures to beat Paul Nicholls' Marc Aurele but that one has looked rather a short runner to date and may simply set things up for Roger Curtis' charge."

Follow: Dreamwalk 4 bg (Roger Curtis)

Dreamwalk was a fair sort on the flat for Ralph Beckett and has made a smooth transition to hurdling, winning twice at Worcester over 2m in July and promising to do even better given the style of those wins, eased down late last time after going clear and on both occasions jumping with impressive accuracy. We get an early chance to see how well treated he is when he runs in the third race at Newton Abbot on Monday. He needs to improve on the figures to beat Paul Nicholls' Marc Aurele but that one has looked rather a short runner to date and may simply set things up for Roger Curtis' charge. A bigger danger may well come from Peter Bowen's Rio Gael who won a seller with ease last time on his debut for the yard. I'll be backing Dreamwalk and will box the pair in a forecast by means of a saver.

Follow: Spate River 5 bg (Jonjo O'Neill)

Spate River was more than capable at around 1m on the level for Chris Wall, winning at Wolverhampton (twice) and Goodwood. He has since been given a typical hurdling preparation by Jonjo O'Neill, tailed off on 4 qualifying runs for handicaps under tender handling before being leniently assessed. His initial jumping mark was 87, a barely credible 1 lb behind his flat rating and he duly bolted up on his second attempt in that sphere at Uttoxeter. Some will look on a 13 lb rise as harsh but he really ought to be capable of running to a mark much higher that 100 if fully translating his form. He was a trifle disappointing on his latest start at Stratford but is almost certainly capable of better than that and should be capable of winning a few more before reaching his limit, a step back down to the minimum trip an option at some stage. He has a good opportunity at Newton Abbot on Monday and should use it as a springboard to better things.

Follow: Changing Lanes 7 bg (John Flint)

Changing Lanes was an impressive winner of a 3m handicap hurdle on his debut for John Flint last Monday after spending a successful stint with Tim Vaughan. Bridgend based Flint isn't as well known a name as Vaughan but has shown with his handling of the likes of Fair Along and more recently Star Galaxy and Right Option, that he's a more than capable handler. Changing Lanes was well supported at Uttoxeter and always travelled well before asserting stylishly from the second last and given his proven stamina and ability to mix hurdling and chasing, should not be difficult to place in the coming weeks. He holds an entry at Worcester on Friday when he may bid to defy a 7 lb penalty.
