"King Lee is a former Lord ‘one to follow’ who struck on the night, but whoever beats Westmead Logan will surely win the Puppy Cup - he looked great, albeit in defeat. The best pup around just now."

He's back and he's got more dogs for your notebook...

The Lord's summer break is over - and we're back in business.

Romford this week might not have been a punter's paradise - unless you followed the Harlow money! - but it still produced a host of top-drawer efforts and surefire winners next time. But before we list them, hope you were on the likes of Jimmy Lollie, Barbies Man, King Lee and Jumeirah Brett, just four of the winners in the last week from the Lord's recent batch of good things.

And now there's more.

We start with Tuesday's Romford winner Shadayid. He proved he stays 575m and possibly further when winning at the Essex track on Tuesday, the extra distance proving no obstacle to Pat Rosney's dog - and he didn't even lead!

Next up is Deanridge Flash who chased home Lethal Spurs in a red-hot puppy race over 400m the same night. He took off down the far side and will not be long in winning again for Dean Childs.

Franks Lad gets a very solid mention, also. Trained by Paul Young, he did well to reach major finals at Hove and Belle Vue but looked out with the washing in the race won by Centurion Enry on the box.

However, off the last bend, he was still in with a chance after a terrifically gutsy effort. The fact that the winner has since gone in again, on Friday, suggests the form was decent, too.
Melodys Comet won with such authority in the 750m race on the TV card to suggest that he is to be respected on his travels, and against better opposition. He has only raced 16 times, and Richard Yeates is placing him well.

However, in behind then was Greedy Bridie and she, too, gets the 'bold treatment'. It might be that trainer Dean Childs needs to switch her from time to time, but she's discovered some terrific early pace and can steal race after race with luck.

Steady Major was a popular and well-backed winner of the puppy race in which Guinness Time was a red-hot 'jolly'. He won on merit, and should be followed, as should the speedy Westmead Nini, who finished second.

Before leaving Champion Stakes night, respect to Go Big Hitter and his young trainer Dean Childs. It was fluent and faultless victory and one the dog is beginning to produce on a regular basis now.

Me Buddy, who is on the comeback trail, also showed exceptional pace earlier on the card and is worth close scrutiny wherever he runs next - short four-bend contests only, of course. And Bubbly Bullet, when he returns, is worth watching from Ted Soppitt's camp.
Incidentally, Friday's Romford card was also a pup-fest with a host of youngsters put through their paces with the Romford Puppy Cup not that far away.

King Lee is a former Lord 'one to follow' who struck on the night, but whoever beats Westmead Logan will surely win the Puppy Cup - he looked great, albeit in defeat. The best pup around just now.

Elsewhere, Romeo Expert's reappearance is eagerly awaited after a roughhouse ride in a red-hot puppy race at Nottingham 10 days ago.

Now, Dave Firmager's dog will have to be placed carefully and seeded right because back-to-back defeats at Colwick Park have just taken the edge of this precocious sort.
But his form in winning the Swindon Produce Stakes six weeks ago is still fresh in the memory and he would be on The Lord's shortlist for Derby glory 2010 already!
Westmead Logan and Romeo Expert. What a team!
