Newmarket, 11.45 - Back Fiscal Policy each-way @ 9/25.50

There will be barely enough time to finish your cornflakes before Nottingham and Newmarket are on our screens as racing reacts to the red weather warning by bringing those two meetings forward to start early.

It just proves what can be done when individual agendas are put to one side and the different factors work together for the good of the horse and ultimately the sport.

I'm hoping Fiscal Policy can grab some of the cash in this handicap, although it would be no surprise if Angel Gabriel was heaven sent for punters given he is a lightly-raced, and now gelded, three-year-old from a top stable.

Ralph Beckett's son of Mehmas makes his handicap debut here and a mark of 82 may not be a true reflection of his ability, however he is drawn in stall one which may make life a little awkward for an inexperienced sprinter taking on one or two battle hardened rivals.

Fiscal Policy certaintly fits that tag as he bids to go one better in this race than he managed a year ago and arrives on the back of a solid course and distance performance from last week.

The selection found himself stuck on the wing that day as the winner, Ancient State, made his way home on the far rail and stall seven might help a horse who always wants to lug and hang to his left under pressure.

That trait didn't stop him going forward and winning well at Pontefract on his penultimate start and Ruth Carr's veteran may land the dash for the cash here.

Nottingham, 12.30 - Back Emperor Caradoc @ 10/34.33

Emperor Caradoc is unbeaten in both his previous starts at Colwick Park so could be the answer to this modest Class 5 affair.

The seven-year-old ran better than his finishing position suggested last time at Thirsk as a slow start and a draw on the wing in 11 meant that he was always distanced from the pacesetting Vingegaard who made all from stall one.

Paul Midgley's sprinter stuck to his task gamely under regular rider David Nolan to finish on the heels of the main protagonists, finishing just a place behind Sugar Baby who has subsequently won decisively at Doncaster to endorse the form.

This is very much Emperor Caradoc's grade and ground and he ought to give another bold display as he goes in search of a hat-trick at today's venue.
